Each Edifier R1280T speaker is about 9.2 inches in height, 5.7 inches in width, and 7 inches deep. The two speakers attach via a detachable stereo cable, with the right one feeding power to the left one. Honestly, to me, I really hated these at first... Like a lot. My ears are quite sensitive to treble and distortion, both of which these speakers have in spades... Even though the treble is peaky, I always felt like things were muffled, or like certain frequencies just never made it through... It's not the kind of "airy" treble that you get from something like Beyers... Beyers are nice because they do have a lot of treble peaking yes, but the way they do it is beneficial to the "detail" of the sound in my opinion. It may hurt a bit... But it's helpful, and you can appreciate it when you're in the right mood... With these speakers, I felt like the treble peaks were more painful than Beyers, yet had zero benefit to the "detail" or "air" of the music. They just straight up hurt, yet still sounded muffled... Looking at FR, I would think that may be due to the relative dip in low mids and 2-3k region in comparison to the rest. I tried playing around with EQ some time ago, but could never really get it to a point where I was satisfied with the sound. I'm definitely looking forward to trying some more EQ's now that I can see what the problem frequencies are, and hopefully it ends up making me appreciate them more for most genres. Moreover, the side panel has three knobs having different functions. The lower one is to increase and decrease the volume. You can control the bass from the middle knob and control the treble from the upper one.

Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” sounds richer and fuller while The Beach Boys’“Wouldn’t It Be Nice” sounds clearer and more detailed. Taylor Swift’s “The Lakes” gets more richness in her voice and better representation of the string instruments. Twin Shadow’s “To the Top,” on the other hand, has a bit more punch to it with a little more bass and better defined low-end while also keeping things on the high-end present. You may think this a small issue but I found the volume adjustment to be overly smooth and subtle, such that it was quite difficult to immediately tell the difference, making it all too easy to press the volume button too many times before realising the volume had changed. The Edifier R1280T and R1280Ts sound great wherever you place them, but they sound best when they're at least six feet away from walls. The bass is not as strong at this distance, and the sound isn't as full. However, it's still a good sound. The bass and treble knobs are more subtle than many EQ controls, which is a good thing. The drivers also offer a fairly flat response in the neutral default setting, so adding some bass will likely be a move many listeners will go for. Even with the bass knob fully turned up, the increase doesn't throw off the balance of most mixes we tested with too dramatically. You can easily boost the bass significantly and the treble only marginally and still maintain a sense of balance between the two. The 2.0 speaker system fitted in them will give out a sound that will never compromise no matter what kind of room you place it into. The bass of the speaker is quite powerful for their size of speakers. The bass drive in this speaker device is 4 inches in size. Remote sensing control Measurements that you are about to see were performed using the Klippel Near-field Scanner (NFS). This is a robotic measurement system that analyzes the speaker all around and is able (using advanced mathematics and dual scan) to subtract room reflections (so where I measure it doesn't matter). It also measures the speaker at close distance ("near-field") which sharply reduces the impact of room noise. Both of these factors enable testing in ordinary rooms yet results that can be more accurate than an anechoic chamber. In a nutshell, the measurements show the actual sound coming out of the speaker independent of the room.

One of the strengths of the Edifier R1280T is that they are extremely versatile. Whether you’re looking for speakers to attach to your vinyl player, TV, or computer – these speakers are able to cover all those bases and do a pretty good job at it too. The dome tweeter helps with the high frequencies, and the bass driver helps with the lower midrange. The tweeter is set at a higher frequency so as to not be drowned out by all of the other noise that may exist in your environment. On the whole, the sound of Edifier R1280DB PC speaker is quite pleasing in all aspects. It is not a wholly balanced compromise sound quality, nor is it vulgar, without characteristics, but the sound sounds so comfortable. Also on the right speaker are the volume, bass and treble controls. The latter two are standard analogue dials that sit in a middle position by default and turn 120 degrees to the right or left. Meanwhile, the volume control is of the infinite-spin, notched variety. This means you can adjust volume on the speaker and via the remote without one overriding the other.
