Description

The main panel unzips fully, so you have really good access to see what is in your bag. But there isn’t much in the way of dividers or pen holders or anything else like that.

Surely a bag with Osprey’s attention to detail shouldn’t be so awkward to use? I soon realised it was just about how I used it though. Once the straps are fully extended the bag holds itself open and holds its shape. I have soon got to grips with its individual characteristics. Carrying Options Having said that, one of the things I really love about all Osprey products – and I’ve tested loads of them by now – is the quality. Okay, so let’s start with the basics – what is the Daylite Duffel actually made of, and will it stand up to the test of time? Materials For these reasons, we think the Osprey Daylite Duffel offers fantastic value for money compared to other models on the market. Rating Finally, Osprey’s All Mighty guarantee covers any defects in manufacture over the reasonable lifetime of the product. For other repairs Osprey pledge to charge a reasonable amount for any out-of-warranty service. In use

This bag is for weekend breaks around town and family trips on the plane. And for that, it’s perfect. It’s lightweight, really well made and pleasant to use. On top of that, the fabrics used for the main body are also approved by BLUESIGN®, a company that encourages sustainable and environmentally friendly fabric production. Despite their light weight however, these bags are no lightweight performers. The fabrics feel light yet strong and top and bottom padding protects the contents from bangs and scrapes. The fabric used is not waterproof, but I’ve certainly found it can keep showers at bay. Osprey’s Almighty Guarantee Nylon and polyester are both popular choices for outdoor gear thanks to their resistance to both water and abrasions. And what do they both have in common? They’re plastics! The Daylite Duffel is constructed of plastic too, making it naturally water repellent and durable.

It also dropped a few points for its internal organization (what internal organization) but, overall, we were very impressed with this duffel. Verdict However, these straps double up as grab-and-go handles when you need them by simply joining them in the center with a solid Velcro patch, and this configuration also lets you carry the bag over one shoulder, neat huh? This is the most exciting part of the Osprey Daylite Duffel to me. It’s made from 100% recycled fabric and yet it still looks brand new, tough and gorgeous. Old-school duffel bags traditionally feature simple ‘grab-and-go’ handles, which are fine if you’ll only be carrying your bag on very short journeys. As they evolved, many models began to incorporate shoulder straps, giving you an alternative carrying method. So, what carrying options does the Osprey Daylite Duffel have?

The interior stitching and seams are sewn to Osprey’s usual high standards and the main seams are reinforced. It is also lined to further increase durability. You will get many adventures out of the Daylite. I wouldn’t like to wear it on a day long hike. I’ve got specialised hiking bags for that, with a much better fit for prolonged active wear. We were also pleased to see an external water bottle holder (because it’s always a risk putting your water inside your bag!), and it’s cleverly angled to keep hold of your bottle no matter what carrying option you go for (but more on that later). Most of us need to carry around a diverse range of kit. Maybe it’s your work gear during the day and then kit for that evening gym visit to the gym. At the end of the week it’s hauling your weekend kit. You could have a bag for every situation but maybe a one bag fits all makes more sense. Osprey have designed their Daylite Duffel range to offer a one bag fits all solution. Features And now for the exciting bit… the plastic used for the construction of the Daylite Duffel is actually recycled PET – which means it comes from plastic bottles originally! Osprey has essentially found a way to convert plastic waste into high-quality plastic fibers that can be used again to make ultra-durable products – how cool is that?
