Description

The new AMD Ryzen 7 6800Uleaves a very good impression so far. The single-core performance is not as good as on the new Alder Lake chips, but the multi-core performance is comparable and the new Ryzen CPU is way more efficient. AMD also managed to improve the integrated GPU, but we will take a closer look at the new RDNA2 GPU in a separate article. While Asus has tuned the stereo sound system in a way that accomplishes incredible volume, it's not as even as I like my music to be. Max boost for AMD Ryzen processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates. - GD-150. As mentioned already, we’re constantly working on updating these lists of Ryzen 7 6000/5000 laptops and adding new products as they are released, but errors might slip in despite our best efforts to keep things accurate. If you spot any mistake or any product that should be in here and is not, please let us know in the comments section down below.

Not everyone uses an external GPU for gaming, so I also ran Puget System’s Pugetbench Premiere Pro benchmark on the laptop and saw a healthy 46 percent performance improvement with the external GeForce installed. This is only in the overall score, which mixes in the GPU and export performance with the entire score and I suspect the sub-scores details would show the eGPU with an even bigger edge. The first laptops powered by AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors are expected to be available by leading OEM partners, such as Asus, Dell, and HP, beginning in February 2022. Throughout the year, AMD expects broad availability of more than 200 consumer and commercial notebooks based on the 2022 Ryzen portfolio. AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series ProcessorsNote: We haven’t yet tested any of the Ryzen U 7000 platforms. I’m updating this section in the future, as we get to review the Ryzen 77840U, Ryzen 7 7735U and Ryzen 7 7730U processors. You might still find these in stores, and with good discounts. Plus, given the differences between Phoenix and Rembrandt are not that significant in real-use, there’s a fair chance you’ll get excellent value for your money in this class. Model JarredWaltonGPU said:Andrew was a bit under the gun to get the review up, but we've added some graphics tests after the fact. Unfortunately, we don't have comparable performance data from other laptops we've reviewed, as that hasn't been something deemed "important" on non-gaming laptops. We're planning to test the graphics performance of some of the other budget "non-gaming" laptops going forward, to build out our suite of results. Right now, it looks like the Radeon 680M is about 80% faster than Intel's Iris Xe 96 EU graphics solution, which is used in both Alder Lake and the older Tiger Lake. It's also a big step down from the sort of performance you'd get from even a GTX 1650 laptop solution. It is not as fast as a GTX 1650, that is to be expected. After all, this is supposed to be an APU that sustains a 15 to 28W TDP. It is really to see how much of a difference people can expect in 3D applications by moving from the aged Vega to RDNA2. The mobile GTX 1650 will require something like a H series processor to catch up due to higher power limit and also better cooling solution deployed. The R7 6800U is manufactured on the 6 nm TSMC process for higher-than-average, as of mid 2023, energy efficiency.

On top of that, unlike in the past, most OEMs have adopted AMD hardware into a fair number of lineups, including mid and premium-tier options with a wide variety of designs, screens, graphics, and other modern features. As a result, Ryzen-based laptops cater to a wider audience now, no matter the needs or budget.

Ryzen 6000U with 8 Zen3+ Cores

Thanks to its decent cooling solution and a long-term CPU power limit of more than 20 W, the Mercury EM680 is among the fastest systems built around the 6800U that we know of. It can be at least 20% faster in CPU-bound workloads than the slowest system featuring the same chip in our database, as of August 2023. Asus has gone with a 16:10 aspect ratio here, which is nice because it provides more vertical real estate than a standard 16:9 screen. I think Asus could do one better and go 3:2 for even more vertical space here, like Microsoft's Surface lineup, though that's a personal preference of mine. Battery Life on the Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED With SmartShift Max, it’s now also aggressive about shifting power to the CPU, too. AMD officials said they’ve found that a surprising number of games that are less graphically intensive can benefit from pushing the CPU harder. This Ryzen 7 series chip has a default TDP, also known as the long-term power limit, of 15 W to 28 W, the expectation being that laptop makers will go for a higher value in exchange for higher performance. Either way, a proper cooling solution is a must.
