Description

White mustard seeds are the seeds of the white mustard plant, which is a member of the Brassica family. German Mustard is a type of mustard that is made from a combination of brown and yellow mustard seeds, vinegar, and spices. Unlike most of the other brassicas out there, mustard doesn’t have many pests and diseases to deal with. In fact, the plants are often used to repel certain pests. That said, you’ll still need to keep an eye out for the following issues:

the petal outline is obovate (roughly egg-shaped, but with the widest point above the middle of the leaf blade) Yellow cross-shaped flowers atop stalks with bluish-green to grass-green leaves that are long and spear-shaped attached to clasping stems. StatusThe leaves and seeds of mustard are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, which can help fight chronic diseases, improve eyesight, and aid in blood clotting. Mustard seeds are also a good source of: Members of the mustard family are characterized by four petals in a cross shape (from which came the former family name Cruciferae, or cross-bearing); and by six stamens, four long and two short. Mustard seed pods come in different shapes. When mature, they split open from both sides, exposing the seeds on a central membrane. the flowers are arrayed in a spiral around the inflorescence axis or branches, or occur singly, or in several ranks To make a mustard paste, simply grind the white mustard seeds in a mortar and pestle or spice grinder and mix with a little water to form a paste.

Annual. Thought to originate in the Mediterranean and near East, now widespread through Europe, western Asia, North Africa, and North America; cultivated in Nepal. Habitat and Distribution Ideally, your plants should be receiving about 5cm of water a week. Since you’ll likely be growing mustard during the cooler months of the year, rainfall will often provide enough. However, if you experience a dry spell, manual watering is a must. Feeding Mustard The whole plant can grow to nearly a metre tall, and tend to branch, ending in small clusters of yellow flowers. Millie Basden, CC BY 4.0 , via Wikimedia CommonsAl-Shehbaz, Ihsan A. Water your modules well, making sure that excess water is freely draining from the drainage holes in your modules It is an upright plant, with large stalked leaves. They are covered with hairs or bristles at the base, but on the stem smoother. It can reach up to 1.2m (3ft 11in) tall in moist fertile soil. [4] [5] [6] It blooms in summer, from May (in the UK) onwards. The flowers have four yellow petals, which are twice as long as the sepals. Each stem has around four flowers at the top, forming a ring around the stem. Later, the plant forms long seed pods, that contain four rounded seeds. [4] [ disputed – discuss] Taxonomy [ edit ] Another option would be to grow your mustard in containers. This way, you can start them off in a greenhouse before moving them outside when temperatures start to rise. The size of the pot that you use will dictate how large your plants grow. If baby mustard leaves are what you want, a smaller container will work well. However, if you want large, full-sized leaves, as well as a good crop of seeds, go for pots that are at least 15cm deep.
