According to the acknowledgments, this memoir started as "a fifty-page poem and then grew into hundreds of pages of…more poetry. Formerly a means for reproducing an artist's repertoire, the recording studio was eclipsed by larger, more lasting notions of art and the production and reproduction of sounds originally borne by the creative imagination. All types of music are covered as fitting for the studio, but its hard to avoid the dominance of two giant records that were recorded here: The Beatle’s Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.tp400 This is a rare collectors item published around 15 years ago to celebrate these great Beatles Abbey Road LP with special commemorative Liverpool postmark to accompany and the cover has limited edition hallmark and identification on reverse for full authenticity unused and mint. Those interested in the more technical details might be left disappointed, but that’s not to say Hepworth doesn’t tackle these (particularly in the earlier chapters). Nonetheless this is a fascinating account of the myriad characters who have worked within the hallowed halls of this famous studio from the 1930's to the present day. Highly recommended for anybody with an interest in the musical recording process and indeed anybody who has had the need to 'cross that bloody road with three mates'. Engineer turned studio manager Ken Townsend rechristened the place “Abbey Road” in the mid-’70s as a way to highlight the building’s relationship with its most famous client and their swansong album of the same name. He does a really meticulous job of here of charting the history of the world-famous studios, and it makes for a fascinating read. As Hepworth powerfully demonstrates, Abbey Road created the firmament for recording artistry, a genre in which the very idea of the studio is upended.
