I can't help feeling that, for impedance reasons, I should be using the stereo rec/phones output instead. i can say that when it comes to the BOSS Me-70, be it the distortions or flangers, or the 'cosm' classic amp emulation. Here is a short sound clip demonstrating the effect of the amp/cab simulation on the recording output. It turned out to be a case of when and when not to utilize amp and speaker emulations, and what types of speakers to use in each case. All these guitar effects are housed in Boss's distinctive rock-solid, all-metal chassis, and it runs on either AC power or batteries for maximum portability. It's nice to be able to mix and match amps and pedals, and this really opens up the choice of overdriven sounds; although the Marshall and Boogie amp models are particularly suited to this sort of thing, we found some great tones by adding distortion to the clean amp model. Everything from Cabinet Simulators like full Marshall Stacks and Messa Boogie rigs, to full Stereo Output. Even if you are a boutique pedal guy, or a full on rack guy, you might easily find yourself in a situation where something like the ME-70 would come in handy.

The quality of the effects can vary, some distortions are not as crisp or dynamic as their BOSS stompbox counterparts (which weren't exactly premium grade to begin with), and some effects you would like to be separate from others, whereas they are unfortunately confined to the same pedal. You can now modify the Modulation Rate or the Delay Level with the foot pedal, as well as the standard volume and wah functions. I like the digital display aspect of this too, changing the dials gives you an exact figure for things like tempo of delay etc. To plug the ME-70 into my computer for recording, I came out of the recording/headphone output, through an audio interface and into Ableton Live. So you can be playing along with your typical delay setting, and do some special delay effect by pressing and holding the pedal.

In the bars they were playing they cut the mustard pretty well, but I wound up twisting their arms to use my actual vintage Marshalls and voxes to track the core parts live. But that would involve turning a stereo line output into a mono line input using some sort of special mixing cable. toxic12: Recently, someone questioned Liam if the masterpiece "nothing nowhere" would be included on the upcoming record.In addition to its stellar COSM amp models and effects, the ME-70 is outfitted with a new COSM Preamp section derived from BOSS’s GT-10 and Legend series. This is very sturdy and will take a beating even when jumped on and kicked of stage it still performs flawlessly. Despite the relative simplicity of the design, BOSS has still found space within the budget to include a couple of tasty extra features. However,be aware that having anything plugged into the Recording/Phones jack will apply the amp simulation to both that jack AND the regular (direct to your own amp) jacks.

I always wanted to upgrade to the Boss BE5M because it was the same as the BE5 but you could programme up to 8 pre-set patches with it and it had an external FX loop. I have 3 valve amps, I have a full analogue pedal board setup (see my sig image above) and I've been playing for over 30 years and I'm still impressed by this thing. Since this unit is really digital with analog knobs, often the control positions don't match what is actually being played. I thought the problem was down to the difference in impedance between a guitar amp input and a mono line-input.I've just had a go using the 'Natural' drive, Compression and Delay into a 1955 handwired catalogue Valve amp fitted with Mullard EL84, 12ax7 valves and my word its a really nice sound.
