As the quote says, Jherek Carnelian, one of the decadent denizens of the end of time, falls in love with stuffy Victorian age time traveller Mrs. Many are the adventures here - The End of All Songs is nearly as many pages as the first two novels combined. The first volume, An Alien Heat introduces us to the protagonist Jherek Carnelian who is something of a trendsetter in the decadent society.

Werther de Goethe is named for the main character of Goethe's novel The Sorrows of Young Werther and for Goethe himself, and is likewise angst ridden. Philosophical inquiry, national identity, religious beliefs, moral principles - gone, nonexistent, all part of a long forgotten past, having been replaced by aesthetics, taste, sensuality and a zest for eye-catching fashion. A comedy, a satire, a love story, a retelling of Adam and Eve, and tribute to the fin de siecle of Wilde and Huysmans (and also Wells and Dunsany) An uptight Victorian women in a post-human(and post-morality) future(resembling a description of a Bosch painting much of the time) and her tumultuous courting by Jherek Carnelian through time and past the end of the world. The original trilogy ( An Alien Heat, The Hollow Lands, and The End of All Songs) was published between 1972 and 1976.White Stars: after discovering that he had inadvertently destroyed one of Lord Shark the Unknown's experiments with lichen, the Duke of Queens offers to duel with him to rid himself of his guilt. You don't get the feeling the civilization died or was destroyed, more that it just grew bored with absolute power and simply wandered away. Many of you will recognize Michael Moorcock from his Eternal Champion series, most notably the Elric novels.

She has a small role in Moorcock's spy novel parody The Chinese Agent (1970), where she describes herself as a one-quarter Chinese former exotic dancer who used to perform a striptease under the name "Dawn Flower Ming, the Geisha Gusher".During this time, he occasionally wrote under the pseudonym of "James Colvin," a "house pseudonym" used by other critics on New Worlds.
