Description

At first blast, Fracas is sweet—but not cheap or candy-sweet like the mass perfumes of the last two decades. It is a symphony of buttery, creamy white, even though there are things that cut through the richness, like the green vetiver and the airy, spring-like, green lily-of-the-valley and hyacinth.

It becomes slightly mossy and musky as it fades, with a hint of sweet amber emerging as it becomes a skin scent. It took a certain amount of time to completely re-orchestrate the scent, and finally to relaunch it, in 1998, with the prestigious label of the " original Fracas formula, certified by Givaudan". Clarification: this post and piece is about vintage Fracas, both the very original versions and late 1990s Fracas, not the horribly mangled, modern reformulations. After the most recent reformulation 1998, Fracas was sold exclusively at Saks and Neiman’s until about 2000 when became available online on perfume sites. Those have been some biggest favorites of mine thus far and, more importantly, are scents that may go along with your perfume profile as you told it to me. Courtney Love adores it, Madonna based her fragrance Truth or Dare off of it, and it makes Martha Stewart absolutely giddy. Opium is my all-time favorite perfume, and I generally consider myself a hardcore Orientalist, but I fall for the big florals, too. My favourite perfume in my early twenties was Joy by Jean Patou and wearing both now , on each arm , it is very similar . It smells so bad on me that I not only don't want to smell like this, I can't imagine anyone else wanting to smell like this.

It is a five-star review by the highly respected perfume critic, Chandler Burr, for a perfume that he rates as “transcendent. Some other good tuberose ones: Carolina Herrera by Carolina Herrera (one of Angelina Jolie’s main, signature fragrances), Amarige by Givenchy, Pure Poison by Dior, or perhaps even Michael Kors or Michael by Michael Kors. In 1998, a company purchased its license and revived the scent, tasking perfumer Pierre Negrin with recreating the original Fracas as accurately as possible. The fragrance finishes off with a base of amber with its warm and resinous oriental touch, cedar, musk, damp and earthy oak moss, and exotic sandalwood. It is mature and is good for transferring into the more womanly feminine (opposed to girly) perfumes. It has “brought every man who passed by my mother to a stumbling, stuttering halt as they wondered what was that marvelous, incredible, hypnotic smell. v=1666622997"}},"requires_selling_plan":false,"selling_plan_allocations":[]},{"id":7341204570161,"title":"50ml, 1. The fragrance comes out in a gentle mist that starts off with a touch of peach and orange blossom for bubblegum sweetness, with a touch of cool iris-like hyacinth.

I think our body chemistry is such that it can turn the most masculine of scents into something “feminine” on occasion — especially with those richer or spicier perfumes that have warmth at their base with things like vanilla, tonka bean, amber or sandalwood. The floral notes that I can detect behind the mothball, chalk dust, and cat pee haze are realistic and dewy. These are the textbook masterpieces, fragrances that are inarguably the best of their kind; timeless scents that have spawned countless copies and even more homages. The enticing fragrance opens with notes of fresh citrus and pear that sparkle over the delicate, blossoming heart of tuberose and white flowers – underpinned with musk and sandalwood that build a warmth, ending in a surprising crescendo of smooth chocolate. Fracas is the big tuberose reference of perfumery, and tuberose is the most carnal of the floral notes.

Musk and spices which smells like cumin to my nose (although not listed) can also definitely be detected.Cellier had recently formulated Balmain Vent Vert and, for her next act, decided to do something based on the notoriously difficult, dirty tuberose.
