About this deal

Though I could have done without the whole dog shtick, I learned some things and Campbell definitely has a felicity for making complex economic concepts readily accessible to anyone with a general interest in learning more about how economics works. Games like Dungeons and Dragons have never appealed to me, and much as I like maps and strange lands, the works of Tolkien leave me cold. John Crace, brilliant Guardian political columnist, kindly suggested that the Chancellor might like to flick through, before plotting a route out of our current difficulties. But, overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would consider reading the author's other "how to explain to your dog" books too because of it. For those who haven't approached the subject before, this book allows them to dip their toes in, and the intriguing concepts drag can one in.

I have read many introductions to economics, none as entertaining and readily accessible as this one.

There’s enough information here to enable you to make sense of Chancellors’ budget statements and to evaluate how likely their measures are to be effective.Along the way we meet some of the great thinkers from Adam Smith to Thomas Piketty, and ponder questions such as: What does one man's project to make a toaster have to tell us about why markets are so important? However, my main gripe with the book - and the reason for dropping a star - is how the jargon was structured. On the surface, this would seem to be nothing more or less than an example of performance art presented as literature. Georgina Godwin speaks to Dr Rebecca Campbell and her husband, author Anthony McGowan, about their latest book, ‘How to Teach Economics to Your Dog’.

Students taking citizenship, politics, sociology and perhaps even history may well benefit from its accessible introduction to the field. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. An excellent book about the principles and functions of economics, which are very easy for the lay-economist to digest.

Dr Rebecca Campbell has a PhD from the London School of Economics where she is currently a Fellow in the Management Department, and Director of Studies of the prestigious Global Masters in Management. Explaining concepts, and THEN giving the name of them would have probably been easier - that, and maybe a rear glossary. Students taking Citizenship, Politics, Sociology and even some History courses would benefit from having an accessible guide to economics concepts. How can I explain this to a 3 year old, very excitable Great Pyranese/Labrador Retriever mix, with a limited understanding of math?
