this was one of my all-time favorite books as a wee child, mostly because of the art and the hilarity of a "dog that belonged to himself". Ben is a tireless champion for the natural world and an Ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund and Tusk. Yeah, you gotta watch those damn liberals, they’ll move sunset to the morning just to keep the unions happy. From that came his interest in environmentalism, emphasised in the story by the disastrous effects that plastic rubbish is having on marine animals throughout the world. Many of the chapters end in a cliffhanger and this book would be a lot of fun to share with a KS1/ Year3 class or group.
