In Kate and Keller, Kim Holden has created two remarkable characters, and after you’re drawn in through their banter and connection, you do start to fear for the worst. Okay, it’s winter and even though the weather is not to her liking, her illusion to teach children with special needs is foremost on her agenda.

From the beautifully haunting “Angels” to the irresistible driving bass line and drums if “Panic Switch” (which makes me think of the first time I heard the Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition”) and of course the magic of The Cure (as a Brit girl, of Jamaican parentage, who grew up in the 80’s, The Cure was of course part of the incredibly diverse soundtrack of my youth). From the beginning, I was skeptical with Katie because if you read as many books as I do, you question any character who believes in “only living once” or “live life to the fullest”. It's about living it to the fullest and not taking it for granted because life could easily take an unexpected turn. Throughout her first semester you're introduced to all of her new friends at the college as well her as best friend from home, Gus. Before you revoke my woman card or force me to burn my bra and roar, it's kind of a common occurrence with female heroines.

I fell in love with all of the characters really, but most of all between the relationship between two best friends who loved each other deeply… Kate and Gus.

I’ve often wanted to reread it but once you’ve read it and know what kind of ride Kate, Keller and Gus take you on, you have to psych yourself up to read it again and I never could.

Not only was Kate a wonderful character, but there were a slue of other amazing characters in this book.
