About this deal

These are sometimes denoted by the letter G, for example G 1/2" means a parallel 1/2 inch BSP thread. It is useful to know their differences – and also how to recognize which type is in use – without having to remove the entire assembly.

This thread type, standardized by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), is typical among North American measuring instruments, found in piping systems, pumps, compressors, plumbing systems, mobile working machines, and many more applications. S. or Canada, the pressure gauge will most likely come with an NPT (National Pipe Tapered) connection. I know this thread is very old, but I'm adding just in case someone stumbles upon it looking for information. The size number was originally based on the inner diameter (measured in inches) of a steel tube for which the thread was intended, but contemporary pipes tend to use thinner walls to save material, and thus have an inner diameter larger than this nominal size. Male (external) NPT connections are somewhat conical, with the diameter of the threads decreasing slightly from socket to tip. Tightening, though, has to be done with care: Too much compression can lead to galling, and over-tightening can damage the threads. The size was originally based on the inside diameter, measured in inches, of a steel pipe for which the thread was intended. Im trying to put a pressure gauge on a 55 gallon drum ,i put pressure in the tank but not one pressure gauge will work ,i put the gauge on the top of the tank ,right on the lid , and it wont give me the pressure .

It is a type of tapered thread process connection, normally written as 1/4inch – 18 NPT male, the 1/4 inch (0. Pressure connections which include the suffix EN 837 or DIN 16288 are sealed on the end of the thread with a small diameter O ring which is placed around the post protruding from the end of the thread. They are both the same, since the ’19’ refers to 19 threads per inch (tpi) which is the standard thread pitch for a 1/4 BSP P thread. At least 41 thread sizes have been defined, ranging from 1⁄ 16 to 18, although of these only 15 are included in ISO 7 and 24 in ISO 228.BSP Male DIN16288 and G1/4 Male EN837 are a couple of examples of how this style of connection is described. In the modern standard metric version, it is simply a size number, where listed diameter size is the major outer diameter of the external thread. Where can we source a pressure DP transmitter flanged with a flush diaphragm for liquid level measurement with an output over 0-200 inH2O? As for the “A” or “B” in some name, such as the common G ¼ B connection type, the letter denote lets users know 1) it’s a male thread, as female BSP threads don’t have a final letter, and 2) its tolerance class.

G Thread is a parallel (straight) pipe thread (BSPP - British Standard Pipe Parallel), which has a constant diameter. In 1991 I transferred to Lawrenceville (USA) and since 2006 I have been product manager for mechanical pressure and temperature instrumentation and accessories. If there is no tapering it is advisable to use self-centering bonded seals to avoid a poor alignment of the seal which may compromise pressure tightness. If you have a gauge with a metric G1/2B thread and your port is NPT or vice versa, try to find an adaptor. Both the A and the B forms connect to the same female thread and seal without a problem in combination with a sealing gasket. Just to confuse things further, often the T in BSPT refers to Thread and doesn't indicate either Taper or Parallel.

The taper is 1:16, meaning that for each 16 units of measurement increase in the distance from the end, the diameter increases by 1 unit of measurement. The only difference between the two thread forms is that the A form has a slightly tighter thread tolerance than the B form. Compared with other same products in the market, this shower hose joint has thicker interface, explosion-proof and pressure-resistant, more durable, suitable for Grohe tap, ballfix valve, the adapter can be applied for 13mm EU taps and 15mm UK faucet, and with the rubber washer make more sealed and leak-proof.To avoid the problem of awkward gauge positioning, use a “crush washer” and hand-tighten the connection. They are often referred to as metric connections because they are used in the metric system and the dimensions are based on metric measurements. Prefixing with G, is equivalent to adding BSP after the pipe size, although BSPP is more strictly correct to define the parallel version. International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions. Longscrew threads These are parallel pipe threads used where a pressure-tight joint is achieved by the compression of a soft material (such as an o-ring seal or a washer) between the end face of the male thread and a socket or nipple face, with the tightening of a backnut.
