In understanding that, and in trusting the instincts of those at that original garden party, Thornbridge’s Jaipur has transcended the very scene it helped to create. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties. Webster had been pleased with the beers coming out of the brewery in the first few months, but remembers being “wowed” by the heady orange peel and pine aroma, as well as how drinkable it was for the ABV. As a result, Jaipur has been the subject of more than one loving treatment, and Jonny Garrett’s recent Good Beer Hunting piece is the best.

Craft beer, by contrast, seemed exciting and new, and people flocked into craft beer bars, free houses, and the occasional taproom (those would become popular a decade later) for vivid, exciting new beers like Jaipur. Our book 20th Century Pub was released in 2017 and is an award-winning rattle through the development of the English pub from beerhouses to micropubs.

On the other hand, being fond of Fuller’s ale, it’s great to be able to get a pint of ESB whenever we want one. Standard domestic lagers were 5% and, perhaps in an effort to seem more special, breweries tended to brew their pales and porters to about 5. Jaipur is a beer I have loved from the first time I tried it back in 2006, entranced by its vibrant and colourful tropical fruitiness on both the nose and palate, and it's dry, crisp biscuitiness before the bitter, dry and fruity finish. The balance they had struck—by putting bold American flavors into a traditional British cask format—was completely novel.

A few hundred years ago, large country estates had their own breweries, and they often made more extravagant, expensive beers than commercial companies could.Indeed, champions founded the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in 1971 to defend this antique draft system. From the image alone, you can really see the carbonation in the beer, creating a lovely, foamy white head.

Lemon is the dominant flavour here while the feel is thicker than anticipated even though the beer is on the dry side (my thinking is dry tends to go with thin). Our latest book is Balmy Nectar, a collection of the best of our writing from here on the blog and across various magazines since 2012. When American craft beer headed back across the Atlantic, it barely resembled the cask bitter that originally inspired it.

It’s usually recognised as the first UK craft IPA, and was brewed with a huge amount of US hops at a time where this was very unusual, these provide a fantastic experience of grapefruit, lemon and tropical fruit with an enticing bitterness. We balance the hops with a great British malt base of maris otter that helps the beer stay light and drinkable, with enough sweetness to keep it in harmony. Not overpowering with fruit flavours some but well balanced and smooth maybe zesty lemongrass flavor and pine with a low to medium bitterness level. Not forgetting Chaipur, the Chai IPA version, complementing the original IPA recipe with spices such as cinnamon, ginger, clove, black pepper and cardamom.
