Bob Blue, England, Hopland, it was almost unheard of to get French oak wine barrels and American oak barrels were for whiskey, Mendocino County, not wine. Ageing in bourbon barrels adds a finish of dried herbs, charred vanilla and a hint of caramel to the layered notes of red and black fruit. Batch 55 embodies an opulent vintage, which saw its fruit grow amid lush rainfall and balmy temperatures. Batch 67 offers classic Zinfandel notes of raspberry, blueberry and tobacco on the palate, layered over a bourbon-barrel thread of caramel, vanilla and smoky hazelnut. The wine marries Mendocino’s historic old-vine Zinfandel sites with vineyards in Paso Robles, Lodi and Amador County. This batch sees an increase in the famed fruit from Sonoma County, a haven for Zinfandel, with 30% coming from Dry Creek Valley and Russian River.

The basis for the first-class and wonderfully powerful cuvée 1000 Stories Zinfandel by Fetzer are Primitivo and Syrah grapes.
