About this deal
The first disc tried was disc 4, named plus 1, I connected it and added the power waiting while it set itself up, but the red light came on! Splitting your wi-fi into three separate bands means one band can be used solely for your discs to communicate with each other. Check for updates and install the new beta, it’s relatively new and seems very stable (for me anyhow).
If it helps: I’ve three Wi-Fi 6 discs, one is a master hosting the router connection, the other two are connected via Ethernet to the first using an unmanaged gigabit switch.
Then I aimed to place the discs, one at a time, where I wanted them, the first 2, disc 4 and 5, were going in the places my previous ones were. It should have been simple, I thought, but the App system failed to add disc 4, the light again turned Red.
So adding my 3rd device sequentially now had to be managed as if I had bought a 3rd and was now adding it. The original set-up was difficult and annoying, and frankly once you had the App the functionality was limited, however you do need it from time to time and that was the case today when I opened it up, only to discover I had been forgotten and had to start all over again. For those on an older version than 822C you will not be able to upgrade directly to 8426, therefore you will need to first update your discs to SGAB20822C before having access to any further updates, including this release. All my devices now connect via my BT PWH as this now uses original SSID and password so the Hub 3 has a different Wi-Fi network SSID which I don’t use. I only solved it by switching it all off and starting again, which when I then knew what I was trying to achieve (ie do initial connection all within 1 meter of each other) was fine and took 15 mins. With three separate units, you’d fear that setting them up would be overly complicated, but thankfully we found that not to be the case at all. We are still on an FTTC service but very lucky to be close to our local OR cabinet with just under 80:20 Mbps. As far as coverage goes, the old system had an AP in three locations, in addition to the router in the lounge.
I own 4 Premium discs - originally two (shortly after they first came out) and later added two more. This is because the process is handled by the BT WholeHome app, which can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices. Mesh networking is becoming increasingly popular – Google’s foray into home networking with its Google Wifi devices utilizes this concept.
You can use the Whole Home Wi-Fi system with any broadband provider (including BT, EE, Plusnet, Sky, TalkTalk, Virgin Media and more).
