About this deal

It is uniformly well acted by a strong and committed ensemble cast, but special mention should go to Saiorse Ronan's passionate Jo - she seems to get better with each successive performance - and Laura Dern's Marmie, who allows us a unique insight into her own private grief, which has been singularly lacking in previous adaptations, where this role is frequently reduced to saccharine saintliness. I found these hard to tell apart and I think if I didn't know the story so well I might have found it confusing.

I love Little Women and Good Wives as books and I've just finished reading them, I watched this movie and it is some of Greta Gerwig's finest work, I loved it and I couldn't recommend anything more than I do this film. Set in Massachusetts in the latter half of the nineteenth century it follows the trials and tribulations of four sisters told through the eyes of Jo (Saoirse Ronan), a feisty young woman who wants to make a life for herself and shuns the social expectations of marriage.Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothee Chalamet as their neighbour Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March. I’m of the understanding that this might be one of the most radical interpretations of the book so far in its history with film and television.

Much of the framing and blocking sets itself up for such artistry, but with such a casual ease to it that you’re just in such a wonder. In Gerwig's take, the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women each determined to live life on their own terms - is both timeless and timely. The score is quite beautifully put on for show here at times and the distinct attention to the individual instrumentation is outstanding. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on their own terms – is both timeless and timely.Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst and Trini Alvarado star in this 1990s update of the classic Civil War tale which follows the lives of sisters Meg (Alvarado), Jo (Ryder), Beth (Danes) and Amy (Dunst) who are left at home with their mother during the war. The likes of Aunt March don’t help and all that the matriarch of the household Marmee (Laura Dern) can offer is a mere understanding hug and some support to keep going, wherever the destination will be. We initially catch with the four sisters of the March after most of them have gone onto live their lives. The difficulties, tragedies and joys they experience tear at, but cannot break, the deep bonds of sisterhood and family in this timeless and heartwarming tale of growth and self-discovery. Somewhere towards the end, there’s a balance, where glimmers of beauty pierce through the trees to find the allure in life being an unpredictable ride. He doesn't have much chemistry with Jo either, but actually it seems to matter less than I thought it would as this film puts far less focus on Jo and Laurie than you'd expect.Whether you're looking for a newly released movie, a TV box set, or even a classic film - you'll find what you need in our categories. Most titles previously had a pressed release but have lapsed out of print and are now only available on these MOD discs. Its a different story in some ways or it seems different to the original with the same premise, but this is just honest to God great acting as it follow the book and original closely. Their oldest sibling, Meg, is married to a schoolteacher, while shy sister Beth develops a devastating illness that brings the family back together.

Adapted from the celebrated American novel and directed by Greta Gerwig this is a fresh, warm, funny and really heartfelt period drama that succeeds on every level. Its quite an accomplishment, and those poo-poo’ing about her not getting more “official” recognition for her equally stunning turn in 2019’s Midsommar are truly disrespecting and not appreciating her role her in Little Women near enough. Little Women Behind the Scenes (HD, 3:25) – This is a brief little promo video that I think played during that whole “pre-movie show” that runs before the trailers when you got to a multi-plex movie. She's a character I've never really liked but this version gives her a great depth and give s her a lot of screen time.
