There’s a lot that could be said about both men (I’m avoiding that here; Dinsdale will be discussed in a future article); anyone interested in their legacy and how it fits into the LNM story must see what Binns has to say. I think the wonderful illustrations, along with a beautifully told tale, in simple language is a triumph! Beautiful books which are a great introduction to the folklore genre… Wonderful stories which will give children a real sense of Scottish culture. I photographed this male Red deer adjacent to Loch Knockie, which is just a few hundred metres to the east of Loch Ness. Imaginatively written and beautifully illustrated… Very highly recommended for children ages 3 to 7, 'The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster' will prove to be an immediate and enduringly popular addition to family, daycare center, preschool, elementary school, and community library picture book collections.

Since then, there have been photographs and films that allegedly show proof of the monster’s existence.Legends of the Loch Ness Monster abound, but this new tale from renowned Scottish children's author and storyteller Lari Don sidesteps the modern Nessie to create a new Loch Ness Monster myth inspired by local folklore.

Here is a collection of photographs and illustrations including rare sightings of the monster and its home. i?'s illustrations are emotionally evocative, walking the line perfectly between creating a monster that is awe-inspiring and terrifying -- especially in one heart-stopping spread, when the children first see the creature's huge shadow circling underneath their rowboat -- yet eventually gentle and maternal. My competing idea ( Naish 2017) – it originates with Dick Raynor – is that it’s an inverted kayak and a head-shaped stick in front. Here I’ll say what I’ve said several times before about monsters and cryptozoology in general: even if monsters don’t exist (in the zoological sense), there’s still a phenomenon here that’s worthy of study, and there’s still a body of data that we can subject to scientific analysis. We got a copy about 4 years ago for our daughter before we visited Loch Ness and even though she's 8 now, she still reads it from time to time. This stunning picture book from award-winning author Lari Don features Nataša Ilinčić's atmospheric illustrations of the Scottish Highlands.

Legends of the Loch Ness Monster abound, but this new tale from renowned Scottish children’s author and storyteller Lari Don sidesteps the modern Nessie to create a new Loch Ness Monster myth inspired by local folklore. Caption: it should not be assumed that people - even people who’ve lived their lives in rural places, surrounded by wildlife - can always identify such animals as deer, seals and waterbirds (like grebes and cormorants) when they see them in unusual places, poses or situations. The most famous photograph was taken the following spring, when a London gynaecologist named Robert Kenneth Wilson snapped what became known as “The Surgeon’s Photograph”. Spicer’s detailed account was reported in the Inverness Courier a few weeks later and more sightings (many of which were anonymous) began pouring in.I’ve become a sceptic for these reasons, not because I wish to be part of a special club (note to Nessie fans reading this: I am not employed in academia), not because I somehow earn points or money for being a sceptic (I wish), and not because I’m guilty of sloppy thinking, blindness, unfamiliarity with the evidence or an unwillingness to read or engage with the literature or the cryptozoological community. Every year millions of people visit Loch Ness hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessius Neversauras, the Loch Ness Monster. i? will carry young readers to the British Isles through enchanting drawings that are filled with charming details. In view of all this, the time is right for an addendum to Solved, and thus we find The Loch Ness Mystery Reloaded (Binns 2017).

A new edition, rewritten and with fresh new images, of a Pitkin classic that examines the evidence and the various sitings on this perennial mystery. We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there is something for every literary palate. Surprisingly informative and factual (if that's the right word for such a subject) about all the lore and history. The book should leave little kids enamored with Nessie and the ending doesn't break any little hearts; it's honest and leaves things open ended about whether Nessie really exists, but it playfully suggests she's just been having fun toying with us humans in a game of hide and seek. So this is the story of Ishbel and Kenneth, the treasure they believe lies under Urquhart Castle, the risks they’re prepared to take to find that treasure so they can feed their hungry family, and the even bigger risk swimming below them as they row across Loch Ness. The dreamlike illustrations from Nataša Ilinčić match the story perfectly, dark and fascinating against majestic landscapes.
