Nordés Atlantic Galician Gin is a rather intriguing Spanish gin made with an Albariño-grape-based spirit, rather than your more commonly seen grain-based spirit, along with 11 botanicals, including 6 local ones from Galicia such as eucalyptus, lemon verbena and samphire, which gives the gin a complex maritime quality. Perhaps that has a bit to do with its origin, as Nordes is the brainchild of three different spirit professionals, a sommelier, a master distiller, and a wine merchant. Nordés takes its name from the north-easterly wind which signals the arrival of good weather in Galicia.

It also has 11 botanicals, 6 of which grow wild in Galicia and give it its fresh, balsamic character. That said, as I’m unlikely to repurchase anything I thought was less than very good to excellent, it would be by chance or at the request of a distiller who thought I rated them very unfairly - BUT even then, whatever you get will always be my honest opinion. The 6 local botanicals are essential in giving Nordés its unique aroma, which evokes the green freshness that is typical of Galicia. Simply wonderful, since the first time I ‘discovered’ it in 2016 exploring Alicante it has been a special addition on my gin shelf.
