What Mariel wanted was to feel like less of a failure. Adrian is a delectable mix of charm and consideration, with secret vulnerabilities and strong opinions that made me want to sign up for an art history class. Watching him fall for Caroline and open himself to joy in the process was a treat. And Caroline... oh, I would die for Caroline. Kind, generous, endlessly brave, and determined to share her whole heart with a world that doesn't always treat her with the care she deserves. These two wounded souls might not seem like an obvious match on the surface, but as in all great romances, their flaws and virtues make them a perfect fit. (And if Caroline would like to expand her portfolio of sugar babies, I am interested!)

I also wish Mariel would’ve refrained from telling her friends that she was fake dating Oz because it kinda dampened the effect. I wanted even more from the fake dating element because it was so fun seeing them interact. We were also robbed of a good drunk demon scene! Oz was buzzed and then immediately it was killed by the fight 😭

A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon

Mariel Spark knows not to trust a demon, especially one that wants her soul, but what’s a witch to do when he won’t leave her side – and she kind of doesn’t want him to? Oz was summoned by Mariel for a soul bargain. He could not have left her side till the bargain was completed and yet she belittled him over and over, gave him no respect and always doubted him even though he was always forthcoming and honest, did not hide anything from her... Even shared his own vulnerabilities for her to just doubt him and crush the things he shared. I don't want to go into more detail because I would end up making spoilers and I don't want that, so I am just gonna say. Both of the main characters haven’t been with anyone else in years and in his case, decades. They’re pretty cute together. The villain ended up being such a wimp. There was such little tension in the story as it was. The ending was anti-climatic and felt easily earned.

Yes, Mom." Mariel pinched the bridge of her nose. She and Calladia-rhymed with Cascadia-had been best friends since elementary school. It was an odd pairing on the surface-rough-and-tumble Calladia had been suspended more than once for fighting, while dreamy Mariel had spent her recesses playing with weeds on the playground-but they fit together. Add the stress of a matching pair of overbearing mothers, and there had been no separating them. Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon—one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain. Whatshisface is meant to be the grumpy to her sunshine but really he's not. I would have loved to have seen more of his denial or anger towards having gained emotions/having to deal with a witch with no control of her powers, but instead he was fighting attraction straight away and cleaning up her house.I would not hesitate to recommend this book to others. I found this book to have the right combination of romance, humor, and magic featuring characters that I won’t soon forget. I cannot wait to read more of Sarah Hawley’s work in the future. Well, keep an eye on her," Diantha said. "Keep your enemies close, but not close enough to exchange fluids, that's what I always say." At its heart A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon is a really entertaining, wildly chaotic, light and fluffy, feel-good fantasy romance. This is definitely a book to read on a day when you need an enchanting story to make you smile. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.***

Life wasn’t a fairy tale full of true love and redeemed villains. The villains were called that for a reason. The worst part of this "enemies to lovers"/ "grumpy-sunshine"/"fake-dating" was that there was NO TENSION. You want there to be a push and a pull, you want to be teased with them possibly having a chance of liking each other and then taking that away. The way the book went was just insta-love. At 20% they were basically in each others arms already. There was no fun at all. I liked the story, it was really light and funny (not so much my type of humor) but still well enjoyable 💫. Mariel, (who, for some reason I've been struggling to read her name correctly, and I've been calling Mirabel and imaging her as the main character of Disney Encanto 🤣 I have literally been fighting my own mind every time to read her name properly and imagine her as described! I managed by the end) our FMC is a witch very powerful but that struggles to perform most spells. She is so kind, quirky, and unsure of herself. Her family is not the most supportive, but despite everything, she is an amazing person and I share her love for nature and plants. She has a random train of thought that I loved to read, because my mind works the same way. I would make weird questions in the middle of a conversation that would look random for most people, but they are not for me. So it wasn't difficult for me to follow her. It was actually easier and more relatable. And everything she ask was already going through my mind. I loved A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon! It's the most utterly witchy sort of meet-cute, and I loved their banter. I loved the awkwardness of the relationship - what exactly does a witch do with a sexy demon that she's summoned? Romance readers know this answer. It was quirky, witty, and sexy all at once, and Oz is a delicious swoon-worthy hero. The small-town-with-magic setting is just as charming as the characters and made me want to visit Glimmer Falls. Highly, highly recommended for Nalini Singh fans who like a side of Charmed to their romance."—Jessica Clare, New York Times bestselling author of Go Hex Yourself
