About this deal

This edition also has a concordance that makes it easy for you to find scriptures related to any topic. You’ll be able to find verses that are related to other verses, as well as words in the original Hebrew or Greek languages. The concordance also includes references to other books in the Bible so that you can see how they all fit together. Eschatology was a hallmark of the Dake studies. The rapture is a snatching up to heaven of all saved men of all past ages, whereas the second advent is a coming down from heaven to earth of the same people with Christ, at least seven years later, for the establishment of the Millennium, and eternal Kingdom.21 Rather than having book introductions, the Dake Annotated Reference Bible contains book summaries. It’s basically the same information; it just appears at the end of the book. The summaries include the date and place of writing, the author, main theme of the book, and statistics. Richard Love and Jennifer Bryon Owen, “The Pentecostal Study Bible,” Charisma and Christian Life, January 1988, 39.

There is a lot of information in the cyclopedic index. There is information that is doctrinal based (like always, do your own study) and information that is factual based (non-denominational). It is a good resource for sermon and class prep as well as personal study. There is even a reading plan to read the Bible through in one year.

The binding is section sewn. It has no trouble lying flat. It stays open in Genesis 1 and will lay even flatter once it’s broken in. It was a big decision for a lad, and cost me a few friends now and again – friends who preferred to listen to almost anyone who had gray hair, rather than a youth just emerging from his teens. But my hair is gray too now, yet my decision remains the same. The prophecies, promises, admonitions and doctrines are there in the Bible the same as they were when I began quoting them years ago. They are in plain language, understandable by anyone who can read and will take time to look up an occasional word in the dictionary. But I was more hungry for God than ever before. I cried out for a closer walk with Him, to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I spent hours in prayer and worship, seeking God.

Dake’s structure of theology is definitely dispensational. He recognized 9 distinct dispensations in Scripture.11

Finis J. Dake, “A True Story of a Magnificent Gift,” Dake Publishing, http://www.dake.com/true.html. After three months of wholehearted surrender, I received a great anointing of the Spirit. A cool and rushing wind came over me. From the depths of my being came the “rivers of rushing water” that Jesus promised in John 7:37-39. Torrents of praise began to flow from my lips as I received in measure what the disciples had on the day of Pentecost. It was May, 1920, and I was seventeen years old. In the incarnation (when Christ “became” human), Christ’s nature did not change from divine to human; rather, the second person of the Trinity took on a human nature in addition to His divine nature. Jesus Christ, the God-Man, possesses two separate and distinct natures in His one person. This doctrine was spelled out at the Council of Chalcedon (AD451). The incarnation, therefore, did not require Jesus to give up His divine nature or attributes. Any limitations He had can be ascribed either to His human nature (e.g., His physical body could not be present everywhere at once) or to His choice not to exercise certain attributes of His divine nature, which He fully possessed even while on earth.
