About this deal

If you like twists and turns, psychological thrillers, medical dramas, and careers/lives hanging in the balance---you may enjoy The Surgeon. The hand grenade which launches the plot into the stratosphere is Paula’s relentless attempt to figuratively cut off Dr. Anne Rider’s head and mount it on her wall as a well-earned trophy. It amounts to child’s play to make a calculated guess as to the motivation of the “Pit Viper” Paula. That is a “Duh!” If you’re a fan of “The Surgeon” and crave more thrilling reads, here are a few books that you might enjoy:

Thank you Netgalley, Bookotoure Audio and Leslie Wolfe for letting me listen to “The Surgeon” in exchange for an honest review. I’ll start by saying this is a good book. It’s a good story. I was entertained. I think the author did a good amount of research to make all the medical references and procedures sound authentic. There were also a good number of twists and turns—some predictable but some surprising. It’s a slow reveal as Wolfe doles out bits and pieces until you have a full picture of what’s really going on. I was clinging to it word for word! … suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, betrayal, and some crazy twists and turns!… kept me glued to my Kindle! … Definitely don’t miss out on this one! ” NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love Wolfe’s plot twists . She’s a master of them… I always give 5 stars to an author who can trip me up… Wolfe gets all the stars for getting me MORE THAN ONCE! … I could go on and on and on about what I loved about this .” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Readers of psychological suspense (or the “Domestic Suspense”) novels these days are incredibly savvy for the most part and can ferret out the genuine “clues” or breadcrumbs that are dropped along the way and smell a “red herring” from a mile down the road. Personally, I do think that the use of what I refer to a dueling first person narrators make it a little more difficult. My rationale is that I keep having to remind myself that one or both of them may be “lying like a rug”. A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! *** I love Wolfe’s plot twists. She’s a master of them… I always give 5 stars to an author who can trip me up… Wolfe gets all the stars for getting me MORE THAN ONCE!… I could go on and on and on about what I loved about this.” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I alternated between the e-book and the audiobook narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor. My concerns with the audiobook were either the narrator or how the book was intended with the two main characters.

Ann is thrust into a world where for the first time she is on unfamiliar ground---where she doesn’t know who to trust, or even if she can trust herself. Despite this one caveat, this didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this latest book by an author that I very much enjoy. I absolutely love the Kay Sharp series by Leslie Wolfe, and very much appreciated having a medical thriller as her latest book. I hope she continues to write standalone thrillers because she did a fabulous job with The Surgeon. With excellent pacing, a sad but intriguing storyline, as well as the medical aspects of this book, this was quite a compelling read. However, Paula has a hidden agenda. She is obsessed. She wants to bring Anne down. She is using her office and position to push this investigation into the death and Anne. A patient dies during surgery but she know him from her past and thinks she deliberately botched the surgery because she wanted him dead...A prosecutor Paula seemed to be keen on making her life hell who is ready to go to any lengths to hurt Anne.. Such a gripping thriller that kept me awake all night, trying to finish the book!... This book was completely mind-blowing and I was literally hooked from the first chapter till the end, wanting to know what is going to happen next!" Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a suspenseful read! … my heart is racing! … from cover to cover, I was hooked. I devoured The Surgeon in less than 2 days!… absolutely perfect! ” NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Omg… had me thinking about the ending for two days afterwards!!… a twist that I did NOT see coming!” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐While The Surgeon is an exciting thriller with multiple twists, so much so that forming opinions on the characters is easy from the very beginning, especially to the degree where you as a reader might just despise Paula as much as I did. However, I listened to this book as an audiobook that was narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor. While audiobooks is one of my favorite forms of reading, I was less than satisfied with the narration, especially when it came to the voice of Anne. I felt that she was too whiny every time the book was turned to her perspective. Maybe it was the narration, maybe it was the characterization of Anne.
