The series won a British Academy Television Award for Best Situation Comedy in 1973. [2] During a repeat run of the series, in January 1980, one episode gained 19.3 million viewers and was the second most-watched programme that week. [3] Jane inherited her mother’s strength even though she does not recognise this inner quality. I loved her determination to save Ashleigh, despite Ashleigh’s claims of not needing to be saved. Maybe things are fine now, but their relationship could develop further and where does that leave you?

I battled to get caught up in the story at first. It was a slow start. However, about halfway through the book I was completely captivated. I read the second half of the book in one sitting because I just could not put it down. The sudden change in pace was a pleasant surprise. I quite liked Jane, although I sometimes struggled to understand her decisions. She was smart and sharp and went through a good character arc. To be fair, many of the characters in this book were well developed and that kept me reading, as well as the twists the story provided. My wife and I have been married for 36 years, we are very happy together and have four grown-up children and six grandchildren. There were so many twists and turns in this book, it built a lot of suspense and I definitely didn't see the full picture until the end. In my personal opinion I think the ending was a little overdone and it overcomplicated the plot. The reader is also confused by it all. I also suspected everyone and even started to wonder if Jess had some mental health issues, so the book kept me guessing which I love. It was well-written, but I missed feeling more connected to Jess. It’s good that you can read a book in one sitting, but I didn’t get to know her personality and therefore it wasn’t easy to care about what happened to her or her family. The twist was good and everything that happened was explained. I liked that we got all the facts in the last chapter from the culprits POV. My initial reaction from the first chapters, where everything seemed to good to be true and naive, made more sense after the ending.

I know that she is does not have the utmost self-confidence. She was once divorced (very young), and currently has a husband that has a very labor-intensive job that usually leaves him in front of the TV or sleeping on the rare occasions he's at home. She probably feels she doesn't get the attention she needs or deserves. Again, she has no real friends outside of the family and the friends she does mention from the past are former neighbor friends and guys. She says she hates most of her co-workers and I guess that's common. Her conversations (w/ me) usually center on her appearance and how she might change this or change that about her looks or wardrobe (And speaking of wardrobe, through casual conversation, I have a pretty good idea of her lingerie collection and shoe collection for some reason! ). Other topics involve shopping, how in debt they are, her job, and other people in the neighborhood she thinks are stupid. So other that sex, the topics usually take on a negative or comedic vein. The programme is about a couple, George Basset ( John Alderton) and Suzie Basset ( Hannah Gordon). Each tries to start afresh after their divorce. They move to the country, only to find that they have moved into adjoining cottages. [1] My Wife Next Door is a BBC sitcom created by Brian Clemens which was written by Richard Waring and was first broadcast in 1972 . It ran for 13 episodes and . We’re making sure we’re not like every other separating couple. We know we will make it work.” Is she trying to convince herself? 😳 That said, I have a feeling most people will strongly disagree with my thoughts about the final chapter. Please bear that in mind if you’re considering reading this book. I loved 99% of it, so my dislike of the final 1% shouldn’t be given any undue emphasis.Wonderful to see that times socitey . How they were looking marriage and divorce and how woman roles changing in the life . Also its funny, i like british comedy . The feel-good part of the story didn’t last much longer. Hours after they move in, Jess received a threatening message in a card (which mysteriously disappeared before she could show it to Ben), and she was hurt when she discovered Ben, Rob, and Carol decided (without her input) to take down the fence between the two houses. Things continued to go downhill from there, and Jess became increasingly suspicious of everyone around her.

A couple is getting divorced. Both parties have amicably moved on in life and found other partners. Everyone involved seems to get along well. In fact, they all become close "friends". For the children's convenience, both couples agree to move and live next door to one another. (Yes, you read that right!) They all "think" this is a great idea. What could possibly happen?

If you choose the last one, I'd be ready for the fallout: Possible denial, possible accusations that you're encouraging her, or other open discussion of the stiutation in front of or with your wife. I put on a robe, walked downstairs and out to our porch, to get a better view of what was going on. There’s a window in the side door to their garage, and light spilled out of it. I crept over to their house; I know I shouldn’t have, but I’m pretty nosy. Would make a brilliant Netflix series,it has all the ingredients needed and as always from this author written so well In the 1980s, a three-episode VHS video was released. [4] The complete series was released onto DVD in 2018. Unfortunately, even though the answers were satisfying, the situation that led to them fell completely flat for me.
