About this deal

Your pad is made of 2 different materials. We have provided 2 patch types to use depending on the material. The valve side is made of a stretch material and the bottom is made of a non-stretch material . It is essential to use the correct patch and attachment method for the material. In terms of overall shape, the Q-Core SLX features outer chambers that are raised a touch above the central ones, to subtly help cup you within the pad. Together with vertical and lateral pad construction, along with its quilted finish, it’s a design that I found provides both support and comfort, once the best air pressure is found. If you’re a side sleeper, I expect you’ll get on well with it, as it’s unlikely your hips will get cold or sore. And I can report that unlike some mattresses, sleeping on the Q-Core won’t keep your camping neighbours awake – there’s no squeaking or crumpling sounds to be heard. Within, the Q-Core SLX boasts Antimicrobial treatment inside the pad prevents to prevent microorganism growth from all that laboured breath. The integrated Pillow Barn sleeve keeps our pillows in place all night. Its rectangular shape and quilted construction give that home comforter feel and allow for a variety of sleeping positions. I’m 5 feet 11 inches and my wife is 5 feet 3 inches, both with athletic builds. In the bag, we can cuddle close or spread out with ample space to sleep.

Baffles— The outer chambers of the Air Core Ultra are bigger than in the original Air Core, which both we and Big Agnes hope will create a smoother and more stable surface. This tip is sure to be controversial but take it or leave it. I believe a quilt is more comfortable for side sleepers due to your ability to maneuver around inside all while keeping your quilt in place. For this to be true however, you need to have a quilt with a sleeping pad attachment system. Not only does using a second sleeping pad give you extra padding, it is also the best way to increase how insulated you are from the ground, helping you to stay warmer throughout the night. 4. Use a pad between your knees Don’t let the R-value of a sleeping pad go by the wayside! In the list above, I mentioned several other sleeping pad options that will work well for side sleepers, but the lower R-value ultimately kept them off the list. If you are looking to camp when temperatures fall into the teens (F) and below, I recommend going with a sleeping pad that has an R-value at 5 or higher. That being the case, the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm is the sleeping pad to beat. Sleeping Pad WeightThis is my first experience with an inflatable pad but I tested a few of them in the store. I couldn't justify upgrading to any of those 2.5 inch air pad that was only slightly more comfortable than my 2 inch Therm-a-rest Self Inflating Trail Comfort Large until I found this pad. Our 2020 lineup of pads was completely redesigned by our Product Development team with the initiative to improve overall quality while meeting a desired R-Value that correlates to its intended use. If that’s not enough, all of our pads are still individually inflated and tested at our factory ensuring 100% quality performance. I would very much recommend this product to my closest friends and even my enemies! (I will sleep well on my Q Core regardless!). Well worth the money! Standard size for most sleeping pads is 20” x 72”, but as side sleepers we may require a little additional space to maximize our comfort. Because we tend to shift from side to side, having a wider sleeping pad helps us stay on our pad and not roll off onto the cold ground. If you are a side sleeper that stays put, then a standard size pad might work great for you. My initial impressions were two-fold. Firstly, the Q-Core SLX Sleeping Pad felt like it took an age to blow up — or at least, 25 full and ponderous breaths. And secondly, I slept incredibly well once I’d done so, no matter how lumpy and uneven the terrain. As a welcome sie perk, the shoulder injury that occasionally plagues my nights when I sleep on my side rarely bothered me.

As mentioned above, and despite the general excellent strength of the mat material, the durability of the joins in the baffles haven’t lived up to my expectations.I’ve yet to try it out in sub-zero temperatures, but it has kept me toastie warm in conditions just above freezing. Plus, I barely feel any lumps and bumps beneath that luxurious 3 inches of insulated cosiness.

What I like: A good option for side sleepers, hardly makes a noise, materials feel pretty durable, very warmI have inflated it by mouth and I remember it taking less than 2 minutes. I found it to be a little bit more difficult to inflate than my previous Big Agnes pads, but it wasn't really a major difference. I use the Big Agnes Pumphouse to inflate it now though. When I use it, I don’t have to re-inflate it before going to bed because the air inside it is not moist. When properly inflated using the Pumphouse, I have found that it takes around 11-13 pumps to fully inflate it. Additionally, it would be useful for the “out” valve to have some control over it to let out a little bit of air at a time. This would help to get the perfect firmess without dumping all the air out in one go. Big Agnes are a colourful bunch who make colourful gear. They started 18 years ago and developed over time to become one of the most respected outdoor equipment companies in the world. After being told by industry heavyweights that the market was too saturated, they decided to come up with something truly unique. The Big Agnes System is an original concept that involves affixing a sleeping pad and bag in a simple and highly comfortable manner. Once this concept took shape, everything evolved from there. One of my favorite enhancements to this pad is the slightly higher side tubes, making it easier to stay on the pad without rolling off; and it just felt more comfortable to "lean" against something, however small, while side sleeping. The quilted pattern felt more comfortable than the straight tube design also, and helped avoid sliding off the end of the pad. Big Agnes claim to have improved the tear strength and durability of the SLX by a huge 25% (compared with the earlier Q-Core SL). They have upped their game by using a new double rip-stop nylon and aviation grade TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) that is super lightweight and mega durable. I’ve yet to have any reason to doubt the durability of the SLX, but it is so lightweight that I am still a little cautious about where and how I use it. Big Agnes Q-Core SLX sleeping pad review

The Big Agnes Sentinel 30 double sleeping bag weighs in at 3 pounds 9 ounces, which is actually lighter than our two mummy bags combined. It’s specifically built to pair with our 2-pound 3-ounce Big Agnes Q-Core SLX insulated double-wide sleeping pad. Altogether, the setup feels like home: warm, spacious, and comfortable. The pad has I-Beam construction that provides stability without creating uncomfortably large humps. It’s plenty wide for two people at 40 x 72 inches and is rated to 32 degrees. If the weight and bulk savings weren’t enough, the double bag is also darn comfortable. Its integrated pad sleeve fits our Q-Core SLX insulated double-wide sleeping pad perfectly and keeps it from sliding off. And its two cinchable hoods retain warmth without being constricting.
