About this deal

The first Star Wars Jedi game lets players unleash the full power of the force with a generous suite of powers that included Force Pull, Force Push and Leap. This is in addition to the ability to wield your lightsaber as a standard single saber or double-handed. Trailers and comments from Respawn Entertainment so far reveal gameplay mechanics in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that are far more in-depth, by comparison. But fortunately, unlike a lot of other AAA sequels, Cal will start off not having to relearn the same powers.

Crucially, though, for as wildly customisable as Cal is, Respawn never loses sight of the fact that this is very much the story of a predefined character still on a journey of growth, as opposed to merely a cipher for the player. And yes, while my Cal always looked pretty cool with his samurai-like robes and man bun hairdo to match, his journey to stop an old evil from rising again makes him more empathetic than ever before. Bolstered by what has easily become my favourite cast featured in any Star Wars media – yes, even you Star Wars Rebels – I feel confident in saying that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor weaves one of the best video game narratives based on the IP in an absolute age. Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will exclusively be released on current-gen consoles and PC. That means players will only be able to play Cal’s follow-up adventure on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This marks a huge difference when compared to the last game, which initially launched on last-gen PlayStation and Xbox platforms before receiving a patch providing an improved resolution and framerate on current-gen systems seven months later. That said, if this style of combat doesn’t suit you and you want to go wild and crazy pressing buttons when you shouldn’t be pressing buttons, well, allow us to introduce you to the Dual Saber Stance.

I don't remember there being so many troopers, droids, raiders, bounty hunters, and **** frogs with Jedi DESTROYING weaponry, how many fully inhabited planets in the Star Wars universe have entire unexplored sections filled with boxes of useless junk/memories you need to find, and how many Jedi are still around?! Respawn proves its mastery of the famous galaxy yet again, with Star Wars: Jedi Survivor improving on the original game in almost every way. With much deeper character customisation for Cal, you can tweak everything from facial hair options to different layers of clothing. New emitter, switch, grip and pommel variations are available for your lightsaber, and even change out colors and parts for everyone's favorite droid companion, BD-1."

Star Wars fans are eating well this year. The hotly anticipated third season of Disney+ series The Mandalorian is set to drop in March, and a brand-new Star Wars video game will follow closely behind. However, a recent leak on Steam has seemingly confirmed that the sequel will arrive in stores on March 15! Perhaps we can look forward to some answers about the Jedi we saw trapped in an amber-like substance in Fortress Inquisitorius? The trailer also indicates that the crew of the Stinger Mantis are separated, at least towards the beginning of the game, with Cal operating on his own. Merrin, Greez and Cere all are confirmed to appear in the sequel, but it’s clearly been a long time since they last saw each other judging by the way Greez and Cal are shown briefly embracing. BD-1, Cal’s trusty little droid companion, is also returning of course.

If the newly released poster below is any indication, poor Cal has clearly been through a lot since we last saw him. Of course, with the sequel taking place ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, its story should line up with Obi-Wan Kenobi, meaning we could see some big crossovers and a greater exploration of that particular era.

Choose whatever stance you feel you gel with the most, but also be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each stance. We mentioned the dual-saber stance before as being a great stance for those who’d prefer to be aggressive and switch from offense to defense at a time, but you should know that if you choose that stance, you take more damage per hit. That might not seem like much, but it adds up. Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. Now no longer a Padawan but a powerful Jedi Knight, Cal continues his crusade against the Empire. He will discover new planets and familiar frontiers in the Star Wars galaxy, each with unique biomes, challenges, and enemies, as well as mastering new skills, equipment, and abilities that will augment the ways players explore, fight, and roam, with larger areas to explore and more to discover off the beaten path. Unsurprisingly, combat is a focal point. You carve through a constant stream of imperial troops, battle droids and alien fauna. Fights will punish inattentive players, requiring deft taps of the parry and dodge buttons to keep Cal alive. But as Cal is an experienced Jedi, his array of established force powers makes the difficulty curve less severe. It also means you can pull and push stormtroopers around for fun from the start, shoving them off ledges and yanking them on to the point of your lightsaber. Later you can use several new lightsaber styles, with mixed success: combining a lightsaber with a blaster is enjoyably flexible, but the crossguard stance (inspired by Kylo Ren’s lightsaber) is too unwieldy to be useful. The original Star Wars Jedi: Survivor release date was March 17, 2023, as announced during last year’s The Game Awards. However, Respawn made the difficult decision to delay it at the end of January, explaining in a Tweet that it needed time to improve on “bug fixes to enhance performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the player experience.” Less than a month out from release, there’s no sight of another delay coming up. It’s all systems go for Friday, April 28. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor platformsSuch additions should make this follow-up Jedi adventure feel much more personal, by comparison. There’s a generous number of colourways included for both BD-1 and Cal too – though the exact amount is not known. Lightsaber customisation options also return with hilts, blade colours, switches and more all tweakable to a far larger degree. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor looks to be a far more customisable adventure than the first in almost every aspect – and not just because Cal can have a beard now. Infinite ponchos are a thing of the past. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor planets and locations Gunplay didn’t factor into Cal’s previous adventure, but that changes for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Because in addition to shooting enemies away from afar, Cal can combine weapons to hold a blaster in one hand and a lightsaber in the other. This is easily one of the biggest changes to combat when compared to its predecessor. If there’s one slight blemish on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s record, it’s that it can sometimes struggle on a technical level. Playing on PS5 in what should be the silky-smooth Performance mode, the game often struggles to hold a steady 60fps during locations that are particularly dense, and moments where the action moves from basic ground combat to full-on cinematic spectacle. There's the occasional pop-in present in the distance of some planets, too, but overall none of these shortfalls were enough to ruin my fantasy of being a Jedi master. It’s just a shame that as a current-gen console exclusive these minor issues still arise from time to time. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on 28 April, 2023 for PC and all major console platforms.
