About this deal

The G3 version had separate XLR and ¼-inch balanced inputs, whereas the G4 now has one combo input. As expected, the bass did feel a little light and may make it harder to mix music; however, for general production use, I didn’t feel this would be a problem.

KRK have added a couple of new two-way active monitors to their range, both of which provide full coverage of the audio spectrum in a nearfield format. Both also feature the same one-inch soft-dome tweeter and a bass/mid-range driver that utilises an aramid glass-fibre cone, the main difference being that the smaller monitor has a five-inch bass/mid-range driver, while the larger has an eight-inch bass/mid-range driver. As you might imagine, this allows the larger Rokit 8 to produce more level and to reproduce lower frequencies, the quoted response being 45Hz-20kHz ±1.5dB. The smaller five-inch unit still manages a respectable 53Hz-20kHz ±2dB, so either will cover the normal musical spectrum very adequately. The Low Peak filter allows users to cut -2dB at the 200 Hz range, focusing on a wider dynamics EQ range. According to KRK, this is an option designed to lessen the impact of possible desk reflections. That is by no means a rule, but it is worth keeping in mind that for some rooms, smaller monitors coupled with a sub can be the better choice, rather than two large near-field monitors.

The redesigned power amps, drivers, and cabinets play a big part in this because the G3 model was a whole different story. Our test made us shake off old preconceptions and find new respect for the Rokit G4 range of speakers. You can remedy sonic integrity anomalies, or just make them sound balanced according to your taste. That is not the case with the Rokits, and it is very handy that KRK has this function on point. EQ Customization

One ends up relying on decibel measuring apps, which end up being a sonic goose chase to configure the sweet spot.

To wrap this up - if you're a tall bastard like me (196cm), it is worth noting that monitors would be best suited on stands. KRK did a great job with improving their Rokit G4 studio monitor range. Judging from the 5-inch model which we tested, the company’s promises held up. At first glance, it may not seem that a lot changed in the design of the updated KRK Rokit 5 G4 studio monitor models. The width, depth, and height of the cabinets are very similar to the G3, but the G4 speakers are quite a bit lighter.

Unusually for a speaker of this price, you get an on-board DSP feature EQ with 25 different settings to help you match the speakers to your room. They are active speakers too – no external amps required – with class D amps delivering 35 and 20 watts to the bass and high frequency drivers respectively. That's enough to power small to medium set-ups. If you are mixing in a larger space, the bigger Rokit G4s deliver a power output from 145 to 300 watts, enough for much bigger studios. I did not know I needed monitors until I got them - no headphones can replace the wall and amazement of sound you get to enjoy music with these bad boys. Other than that, the G4 now has an actual LCD screen located on the rear panel. It took the place of the previous version’s volume and EQ knobs. After trying to mix with the KRK Rokit RP5 G4 monitors, the end product translated well on other speaker systems. All new front-firing port has exceptional low-end accuracy, clarity, extension, punch and offers flexible room-positioningThe body of these is quite strong and would probably survive a fall from a small height but no more than once. ( i don't recommend trying that out though) Quite recently, KRK updated their renowned Rokit G4 powered studio monitor line of near-field studio monitors with a complete tech overhaul and a brand new scientifically designed speaker enclosure. What’s more, the G4 speakers can be paired to the KRK DSP app, allowing adjustments to be made via smartphone or tablet. That allows for a good amount of experimenting, but it does not give users the choice to boost or cut frequencies completely as they please. That is a huge step forward in our eyes.
