The Wombat Pine Professional is giving the likes of Logitech and Razer are good run for their money. Though the Wombat brand doesn't yet enjoy mainstream popularity, it's an appealing choice for professionals who want a proper mechanical keyboard that's also both attractive and office-appropriate. Since it is designed especially for Mac users (though it is compatible with multiple platforms), it also comes in different colorways that match the colors of the iMac 24-inch. Bluetooth products are especially popular with Surface Pro and tablet owners, as there are often only a few available ports on these devices. Even if you use just one USB receiver for both mouse and keyboard, many tablets won’t have a second USB port available for secondary connections – making Bluetooth products the perfect solution. That all said, much of the tech introduced with the Pro is here, so you get Smart Chord and Smart Scale modes which aid songwriting and composition, an excellent arpeggiator, plus Beat Repeat so that stutters and repeats can be triggered from the pads. The forehead or top bezel of the case which houses 3 indicator lights is disproportionate to the other side bezels. This is a very small design gripe, but enough of one to make it look slightly unbalanced. There are two sets of adjustable feet, and similar to the EpomakerEP84 above, the USB port is recessed to allow for cable routing. In this case, the fact that the design hasn’t changed in over a decade is probably a good thing, and spill resistance only enhances the impression of a simple, reliable product. Frills are limited to a calculator hot key, but for basic needs you won’t get much better for just over a tenner. The compatibility with custom cables is not the best though, as the port is slightly recessed into the case. Convenience here means being able to use minimal cables for multiple devices, and if your keyboard cable ever stops working, it is nice to know you likely have several more compatible cables laying around. Finally, mechanical keyboards have a switch and spring arrangement under each key. This inevitably costs more to produce – and thus to buy – but it does allow the manufacturer to tune the feel of the keyboard and every key on it.

Much like when you're using the best mouse, the best keyboard will change the way you interact with your computer and elevate your experience overall. Having tested more than our share of keyboards, we can truly say that there is massive difference between an excellent keyboard and most of the cheap ones you find online.

So, Which Keyboard Should I Buy?

The legends on the modifiers are in all lower-case, while the alphas are all caps. It is a youthful and fun aesthetic that is an improvement on the typical “gamer” font, but may clash with each other and seems a bit contrived. The Corsair K70 Pro Mini Wireless is as portable as keyboards come while still providing standard-size keys and many connection options. If you like to bring your own gaming gear with you wherever you go, the Corsair K70 Pro Mini Wireless is a great choice, as long as you're willing to pay a premium for that. OTHER SWITCH TYPES. Among wireless keyboards, you'll spot the occasional model using membrane or mechanical key switches. Membrane keyboards actuate, triggering the signal that goes to your computer, by pushing down a rubber dome at the base of the key. Mechanical keyboards do the same via a physical switch with a spring or other tactile actuator. Relative to scissor switches, both types of keyboards provide more key-press travel, which leads to a more comfortable typing experience. Many people prefer the low action and light touch of scissor switches, though, so this ultimately comes down to personal preference. It has the best Mac-compatibility out-of-the-box than any other wireless mechanical keyboard solution available on the market as of this writing. Hot-swap would give you a lot of freedom in being able to change out your switches easily should you want to try something beyond the Gateron Red Blue and Browns.
