Dora’s Map – The map character from “Dora the Explorer” showcases cleverness and utility like a fox. If reading is more your thing, there are also a couple of really great books on dark tourism. Two of my favourites are Don’t Go There: From Chernobyl to North Korea—one man’s quest to lose himself and find everyone else in the world’s strangest places and The Dark Tourist: Sightseeing in the world’s most unlikely holiday destinations. Both books are comical repertoires of the authors’ adventures and mishaps when visiting dark tourism attractions around the world. This makes for some great like, leisurely reading over a glass of wine or a cup of tea! This infographic was created by one of my travel and tourism work experience students. Types of dark tourism Colorful feature:These foxes have soft-colored coats that are pale orange or yellow with distinctive white patterning. They also can have colorful eyes. Their eyes are usually brown, though they can be green, blue, or mixed in color. Teumessian – Named after the Teumessian fox from Greek mythology, a giant fox destined never to be caught.

In a more recent publication, Kevin Fox Gotham defines dark tourism as “the circulation of people to places characterized by distress, atrocity, or sadness and pain. As a more specific component of dark tourism, “disaster tourism” denotes situations where the tourism product is generated within, and from, the aftermath of a major disaster or traumatic event”. Some people are motivated by curiosity, historical interest, a desire to pay respects to the victims, or a desire to challenge their own perceptions and beliefs. While some people keep foxes as pets, most species of fox aren’t considered to be domesticated. However, research indicates that ancient Iberian peoples may have domesticated what is today known as the Iberian fox. The Iberian fox is a red fox subspecies, and like most red fox subspecies, it is not considered to be domesticated now. 34. European Red FoxFoxes change colors for a couple of reasons. Most red foxes and arctic foxes will change colors when they start to shed. They do this so that they will stay cooler in the warmer months. Their fur losing some of its defining colors and makes them appear to be darker or lighter than normal. It is considered breech of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to breed " rescued" or " wild-caught" native foxes (and their offspring) in captivity. All reasonable attempts to rehabilitate such offspring for release must be made - except in the case of non-native animals or their hybrids, which cannot be released. While it is not strictly a legal requirement, for welfare reasons, wild foxes that cannot be rehabilitated for release require neutering, or should be kept in same sex groups if neutering is not possible. The Cape fox ( Vulpes chama) is a desert fox found in the Saharan regions of Africa. They are one of the only foxes in Africa known to live under the equator. Their colors are gray with salt and pepper tones. Cape foxes prefer to make their dens in semi-desert areas and stay away from forests. While some fox species are solitary, others, like the Arctic fox, have complex social structures. Observing their interactions can offer a window into their world. Cunning Nature Colorful feature:This color is one of the many red fox morphs. Chocolate foxes have deep chocolate or liver chestnut fur. But as you can see in the picture, one of the most stunning features of the chocolate fox just might be its stunning golden eyes.

Colorful feature:The pastel fox varies significantly in color. Some are dark brown, while others are a dilute, nearly lavender color. Interestingly, darker-colored foxes tend to have darker eyes and paler pastel foxes tend to have lighter eyes.been found on any other continent but North America and is a descendent from the common red fox. It is what is known as a sport or mutation in the animal kingdom. Due to the fact that one silver fox pelt would bring hundreds of dollars more than the common red variety, we can readily see why it was that the first men who conceived of the idea of fur farming should naturally turn to the silver fox. Swift foxes eat small mammals, vegetation, fruit, fish and whatever is available with the season. The swift fox is considered endangered due to many of its territories being turned into farmlands. Kit Fox

Mutations are color variations or morphs that occur in different species of foxes. Some of these mutations occur naturally in the wild, however, a lot of them are the product of breeding programs from fur farms.

Moves learned by Nickit

An early definition defined by John Lennon and Malcolm Foley, define dark tourism as “the representation of inhuman acts, and how these are interpreted for visitors”. This is another “false fox” that is sometimes called the Peruvian desert fox or the Sechuran zorro. It is very unusual in that its teeth have adapted to let it feed on dry desert plants. It still has sharp canine teeth that allow it to hunt live prey. Currently, the IUCN classifies the Sechuran fox as being near threatened. 19. Anadyr Fox

Whilst I think that most of us would agree that this is not sustainable tourist behaviour, there are a range of views as to what is appropriate and what is not when taking part in dark tourism. The kit fox ( Vulpes macrotis) is a desert fox that lives in the s outhwestern parts of the United States. Kit foxes also make their home in Mexico and thrive in the regions that have scrub and grasslands. They prefer loose soils for their dens, that are easy to dig. They are a gray and sandy color mixed. With some red and gold colors on their arms and legs. We took a day trip from Prague to visit this unusual attraction, which was eerie and fascinating at the same time! There are also a few other color morphs in gray foxes, one of them is white, and one is leucistic. The white morphs are completely white with pink noses, and the leucistic is a tan/beige color with some white areas on their chest and underbellies. Colorful feature:Though the name might make you think that the gray fox is all gray, it appears to have a reddish base color that is blanketed by dark grizzled gray. Its color is somewhat variable, as the red patches are darker in some individuals than others. As early as 1860 John Hadley of Wellington County, Ontario, ranched the first pair of silver foxes but discontinued this attempt after a short time. As to whether Mr. Hadley was successful in this venture, Upon looking at it, you might be very surprised to learn that the Arabian red fox is a subspecies of Vulpes vulpes! That difference can be explained by its desert habitat, a vastly different environment from that of many other red fox subspecies. 33. Iberian Fox There are a wide range of disaster tourism destinations (more than one would have imagined!), many of which would be overlooked as a dark tourism destination. Remember, when choosing a mythical name, consider the stories behind each name and how they resonate with your fox’s character.
