About this deal

The Royal Institution has a thriving YouTube channel filled with videos of science experiments and findings from social science experiments. It’s an attraction for people of all ages and abilities, but they have one playlist that gets a lot of attention in the world of science education: ExpeRimental. This is one simple experiment to do! All that is needed is ivory soap, a plate, and a microwave. Will you get the same results with a different brand of soap? Chances are no as Ivory soap is one of the few brands of soap that floats in water due to the air bubbles whipped into the soap. The air bubbles in the soap contain water molecules which expand when heated up. You can read more about the science behind this experiment over at Steve Spangler Science and you can find out more information and see this experiment in action over at Housing A Forest. 4. Exploding Baggie Experiment Milk is composed of minerals, proteins, and fats, which are easy to change. When you add the dish soap to the milk, the soap molecules try to attach to the fat molecules in the milk. This experiment could not be simpler, and it’s the perfect tool for teaching kids of any age about viscosity. First, you fill one glass with clear soda, and another glass with plain water or a different liquid that does not have gas bubbles. Then, place the raisins in each glass, and watch how they dance in the glass with clear soda.

This super easy experiment involves mixing equal parts oil and water and adding a drop of food coloring to see what happens. Kids will love watching the food coloring make it through the oil. You will love how easy it is to set up and clean up!You can also try creating the parachutewith different materials to replace the paper bag, such asa paper towel or napkin, and see how that affects the performance.

C6.2.1 describe the effect on rate of reaction of changes in temperature, concentration, pressure, and surface area Let the celery sit for awhile. It will take a few hours at least, but pretty soon you’ll notice the leaves changing colors. You can also do this experiment with a light-colored flower. Ask again which is denser, the water-based drop or oil (the water-based drop sinks, showing it’s more dense than oil) If no alternative compounds or routes are available, and you have to run an experiment that involves a potentially explosive compound, make sure you fully understand the risks and how to control them before proceeding. Experiment Planning This video from Thoisoi2 shows a chemical “traffic light” reaction, where a solution changes into the colours of traffic lights simply by being shaken up. The video gives clear instructions on how to carry out the science experiment yourself and gives the science behind why the reaction occurs.First, blow up your balloon. Next, take two pieces of scotch tape and make an X on your balloon. Then, with parental supervision, push a needle through the middle of your X. New Year’s or July Fourth: time for parties and chemistry. In this video, Bassam Shakhashiri, chemistry professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, explains some of the science of fireworks. Kids will be amazed watching this stunning rainbow science experiment. This experiment uses Hydrogen peroxide, food coloring, liquid dish soap, dry active yeast and lukewarm water. When combined the liquid turns into an exploding rainbow. Make sure kids are well supervised when doing this experiment but the foam is safe to play with, just not the liquid. The other super cool thing about this exploding experiment is that it is exothermic, meaning it gives off heat! Visit Science Kiddo to find out more. 6. Mentos Geysers They each use simple ingredients from around the house like food coloring, dish soap, paper towels, ice cubes, rubber bands, white vinegar, vegetable oil, and baking soda.
