The design is distinctive and clearly Chinese. The straightforward round case and simple pushers are typical of the period and reminiscent of other chronographs of the time. The crown and pushers are well proportioned with the rest of the case. The crown has an engraved star on it — a nice touch on Seagull’s part. I don’t have any problem with the power reserve. About the movement, sometimes I used the timer, and it worked fine. If you thought that all Chinese watches were cheap pieces or fakes, stop. Look at those five Seagull watches again. I got the 38mm model and, after receiving it in the mail, I asked a few of my friends to try it on. Believe me, it looks great on any wrist size from 15 cm to 19 cm (5.9 to 7.5 inches). The cream dial is authentically vintage and cleverly uses colour to separate the different functions. The numbers and indices are gold, the hour hands blue and the chronograph hand is red. The effect is impressive. You wouldn’t think that gold, red, blue, and brown colors would look good next to each other, but somehow, the Seagull 1963 makes it work. This classic model of the watch (Seagull 1963, 38mm) comes with domed acrylic glass that matches the original Seagull 1963 the best. Other models (Seagull 1963,38mm & Seagull 1963, 40mm) have a more modern and higher scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The curvature of this sapphire glass is minimal, which is in line with the rest of the modern look. The colour palette, the bold numerals and the 24mm canvas strap. They all look practical for a military or field watch. Like the 1963 chronograph, this piece feels authentic.

It takes its design cues from similar dive watches from the 1950s and 60s. It’s less obviously Chinese than the 1963 Chronograph but it still represents tremendous value for money.
