About this deal

On top of the body is the Turbo switch. That might not be as corny as Tesla’s ‘Insane’ power mode, but it seriously ramps up the BCS122GB’s suction. Runtime takes a nosedive accordingly. The Dyson V15 is top-heavy since the motor and dust cup assembly are on top. It wasn’t a big issue for me when vacuuming my floor or carpet, but it was somewhat exhausting when vacuuming the furniture for a longer time. As for the Bosch Unlimited 8, its weight is well distributed, so it didn’t put too much pressure on my wrists. Battery Life But on my high carpet, the head of Unlimited 8 was pulled down onto the carpet, and the roller slowed gradually and finally stopped completely. That is common with air-powered “turbo” rollers, making for a bad vacuuming experience. I switched to normal power settings, and this problem stopped happening, but the clean performance was fairly poor afterward. Thankfully, because of the two batteries, this Bosch delivers plenty of serious Turbo-mode cleaning runtime. With the fast charger taking 55 minutes, power is not quite unlimited, but you can get a very long way around the house in 18 minutes. Bosch Unlimited BCS122GB – How noisy is it?

We measured between 66 and 72 dB while testing the BOSCH Unlimited Series 8 cordless vacuum. This volume is tolerable, and you can still have a conversation while vacuuming. The Unlimited 8’s filter, on the other hand, has a fine mesh canister with a pleated filter inside. The producer advertises that this filter system can trap 99.9% of dust and dirt, like HEPA filters. It isn’t washable and can be rinsed by twisting the red handle on top, called Rotation Clean. The Unlimited 8’s filter can be rinsed by twisting the red handle on top There are no unnecessary additions, buttons or edges. The device’s design contains everything it needs for its actual task - no more, no less. Yet the 18 minutes runtime (nine minutes x 2) on the Turbo mode gives you ample high-power floor cleaning to rival any current mains-powered cleaner.

However, those huge runtime differences highlight the equally massive difference in suction power between modes, and we think Bosch has got it very wrong here. The Turbo mode is a very, very different story, albeit one you must manually engage every time you switch on. Punch that button on top and the BCS122GB does a Tesla and goes ‘Insane’. Suction and airflow are multiples of the normal power mode, delivering great cleaning ability. Jekyll and Hyde? You bet.The dust cup of the Dyson V15 has a capacity of 0.75 liters, while that of the Bosch Unlimited 8 can house up to 0.4 liters of dust and dirt. Aside from the small capacity, the other thing I don’t like about the Bosch Unlimited 8’s cup is that I had to disassemble the unit entirely to empty the container.

Unusually, the BCS122GB has a single filter unit, rather than the multifarious foam, paper, mesh and pleated filters of its rivals. But thanks to Bosch’s very sleek filter design that doesn’t diminish the filtration, and the company claims that a hygienic 99.9% of particles will be captured. The two batteries supplied with this model are remarkably compact and light for their capacity. For comparison, a lot of budget cordless cleaners come with 1.5Ah or 2Ah batteries that are larger and heavier. The solid capacity promises a whole lot of run time from the cleaner, with the ability to swap out batteries and charge while you are cleaning. On normal power mode with no tools, this cleaner barely registered 65dB of noise output. That is much quieter than most of its premium cordless competitors and the sound is an inoffensive drone – as opposed to the dentist-drill sound of some.We would have much rather seen the normal mode offer twice the suction and half the runtime. That would give you about half an hour of ‘normal’ cleaning with the floorhead per battery. As it is, with its two batteries, the Unlimited BCS122GB offers over two hours of not very much at all on normal mode. On carpet, a little more was left behind. I measured 96% of the spill collected, though a visible dusting remained after the first pass. I found it was best to employ the upholstery brush, as the velvety bristles had just enough agitation to gather the remnants from our short pile carpet.

As popularised by the eponymous Dyson, this Bosch is also bagless but it only has a capacity of 0.4l so you’ll have to empty it out pretty frequently. It’s smaller than the Dyson V8’s 0.54l bin, although on balance there’s not enough in it to make a significant difference to the way you’ll use the vacuum. All in all, the BOSCH Unlimited Pro Power BSS81POW1 cordless vacuum impressed with its extremely powerful suction in the cleaning tests. The Bosch Unlimited 8 has two vacuuming settings: normal and turbo. Likewise, the Bosch Unlimited 8 features three cleaning modes: eco, auto, and boost. In Turbo and Boost modes, these vacuums will, of course, have the most suction, making them the best cleaners they can be. Those are also the settings I used for my tests. Hard floors The Unlimited BCS122GB is the top-spec model of the series and comes with a solid, if not fully comprehensive, list of toys. Unfortunately, we experienced that the emptying function of the Bosch Unlimited from the new Series 8 leaves a lot to be desired. The configuration of the Bosch Unlimited will be familiar to most people by now; if you’ve seen a Dyson V8, you know the deal. The vacuum motor, battery and dust collection bin are all housed in a compact, handheld unit that you connect your cleaning attachments to. When emptying the dirt container, it’s crucial that you can carry the dirt from the device to the dustbin as easily and as cleanly as possible. Every manufacturer has its own system. Some work well, and others don’t.
