The Female (1959) for director Julien Duvivier was popular, but Babette Goes to War (1959), a comedy set in World War II, was a huge hit, the fourth biggest movie of the year in France. [50] Also widely seen was Come Dance with Me (1959) from Boisrond. Bardot had a small role in a Hollywood-financed film being shot in Paris in 1953, Act of Love, starring Kirk Douglas. She received media attention when she attended the Cannes Film Festival in April 1953. [36] In remembering this anguished chapter of her life, Bardot said, "I felt cornered, trapped, smothered to the point of suffocation—to the point of just wanting to die." Chemical imbalances, which do things to your mind." For the Italian movie Mio figlio Nerone (1956) brunette Bardot was asked by the director to appear as a blonde. She dyed her hair rather than wear a wig; she was so pleased with the results that she decided to retain the color. 56. She Doesn't Trust Humanity

Everything about Bardot's childhood was tight, conservative, and oppressively Catholic. Both she and her sister, Minjanou, were raised to follow specific etiquette and were expected to behave like stiff little marionettes. Her mother didn't even allow her to choose her own friends and as a result, Bardot grew up terribly isolated. Still, that wasn't even the worst part. Bardot was French through and through, and there was only one way she'd ever agree to do an American film... Once he did a party where he played as if there was a hold up and everyone was surrounded [laughing] and people were getting frightened. Sachs is mentioned in Warhol's memoirs as one of the young Europeans who went to New York and had the whole Studio 54 experience. "At the time you didn't think much of it, but it was fun. You don't appreciate those moments enough because you don't realise." Surrealist work Bardot later said of Vadim, "He taught me how to be so free that, as a result, I left him for another man. That was his price to pay." She was so thirsty for new experiences, she never thought twice about shamelessly betraying her husband. She had a small role in The Grand Maneuver (1955) for director René Clair, supporting Gérard Philipe and Michelle Morgan. The part was bigger in The Light Across the Street (1956) for director Georges Lacombe. She had another in the Hollywood film, Helen of Troy, playing Helen's handmaiden.
