Then in the 17th century, it became a royal home to the Greville family gifted by King James I. During the restorations it was actually part of the Gunpower plot of 1605 with Guy Fawkes. Again, we don't want to give too much away for any of the horror mazes for those heading to the event later this week. However they said The Crest was captivating and left you guessing at every turn. The Castle Dungeon is not suitable for people with claustrophobia due to the enclosed space, narrow pathways and small rooms

Modern reports of the castle’s ghosts still include the sound of phantom footsteps, however they are no longer attributed to Guy but soldiers of the past. Many books also claim Mr Marsh himself experienced the phantom footsteps and not the former bailiff – which is untrue. In the 13th century, a stone castle is made in place of a wooden one and by the 14th century, many of the towers and ramparts we see today are built. The paranormal activity at Salford Hall Hotel is rife throughout the property. The majority of the ghosts that haunt here all seem to have some connection to a religious theme. One of the most common spectres to be seen at Salford Hall Hotel is probably the ghostly nun. She is usually seen on the lower floor of the hotel and has been reported by both staff members and guests alike! She is thought to be the restless soul of a nun who was brutally murdered here sometime in the 17 th century. However, the most well-known ghost that haunted Ettington Park Hotel is perhaps the Lady in White. This is the spirit of a woman who is all dressed in white as she glides through the hotel’s corridors before vanishing into a wall which is always, quite understandably, said to startle guests who see it. She can also be found on the veranda most nights at around dusk (Staff have suggested that she could be ‘Lady Emma’ who served as a governess at one time.

The apparition of a grey lady believed to be Moll Bloxham, has been witnessed floating around the castle. Families can journey through the Haunted Hollows or be entertained by the magical ladies of The Witches’ Tower. The autobiography of Anne’s eldest son and heir mentions the fact that his mother had an interest in ghosts;Perhaps the most tragic of these three spirits is that of a young child who was beaten, cruelly whipped and flayed by their parents. After years of abuse the child’s fragile body could not withstand more and after a savage beating they died but due to their violent end they are in a state between this world and the next. There's ghosts, ghouls, wizards and witches. The Dead Centre Stage based in the Castle Courtyard features a a host of colourful characters - and throughout the day it was fun to drop in and see what was happening. Seven years later, thoughts of his mortality led Greville to draw a will. He had never married and had no children, so he made a little provision for his Constructed in the 12th century, Coombe Abbey was originally the abbey for a group of Cistercian monks. It passed into the Harington family after the dissolution of monasteries, who sold it to numerous owners until the Craven family took possession in 1622 and held onto it until 1921.
