In 1963, the Salem City Council considered supporting the Marion County Historical Society’s efforts to preserve both buildings by relocating them at a Salem city park. They considered proposals to move both the Jason Lee House and the Parsonage to either Bush’s Pasture Park or Marion Square Park. As part of their larger efforts to educate the public about the historical significance of the Jason Lee House, the Marion County Historical Society even offered the public an opportunity to tour the house on Feb. 10, 1963, before the City Council made their final decision. Lewis Judson, a member of the Marion County Historical Society, whose grandfather was a carpenter in charge of constructing the Lee House, was part of the group who offered the public tours of the Jason Lee House, while it was still in its original location on Broadway Street. In 1819, Fr. Francisco Xavier de la Concepción Uría called for the construction of a water-powered grist mill in an effort to increase agricultural production at Mission Santa Inés. By 1820, two stone reservoirs and a stone mill building were built into the slope of a small hill above Alamo Pintado Creek, about half a mile from the church. Water was supplied by an earthen ditch or zanja that diverted water from Zanja de Cota Creek more than three miles away. The mill was of an ancient design, using a horizontal wheel powered by a water jet to turn a mill stone attached to its axle. Jason Lee House (1841), a home of Jason Lee which, with the Parsonage, are the earliest known frame buildings in Salem, and perhaps the oldest remaining in the state Three missionary families and Superintendent Lee and his second wife, Lucy Thompson Lee, lived in four tiny apartments in Mill Place. Lee himself occupied the house a relatively short time before he was recalled by the Missionary Society’s board of managers and left the mission in 1843. For golfers who come to Malacca, the visit must include a round of golf at AKCC. The natural setting, the sheer length and the challenges of the course will make it an unforgettable experience. Last but not least, one of the attractions of AKCC is the 18th hole, one of the longest in Southeast Asia. It's a Par 5 with a distance of 643 meters. Despite this delay in determining the final location for the house, the Marion County Historical Society was still responsible for complying with the owner’s requirements to move the Jason Lee House off the Broadway property before March 1, 1963. The second Bishop son, Roy, had left the company in 1918 to form his own company, the Oregon Worsted Company. The third son, Chauncey, died in 1927. This left C.M. with the sole responsibility for management of both woolen mills. In 1960, a little-known singing group known as the Pendletones was formed, taking their name from the classic Pendleton wool plaid shirt. This group later changed their name to The Beach Boys and the Pendleton shirt became popular among American youth. In 1972 the company again expanded its product line with the introduction of non-wool garments for men and women. Many customers had a desire for the classic Pendleton style for 'year round wear, but wanted lighter clothing for spring and summer wear. Again the new line was a major success. Mills eventually left for his mission, flying passengers held in cryogenic stasis. During the mission, he received video calls from Nevine, who first told him how she was doing well, before suddenly falling into a more severe stage of her illness, making her angry and bitter at Mills for not being there for her, although she still said that she loved him. Then, still in the midst of the expedition, Nevine died from her illness, Alya sending the news to Mills and trying to assure him that she peacefully passed away.
