Despite its numerous features, the EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro remains user-friendly and easy to handle, further boosted by the convenient EcoFlow app for remote monitoring and control. The design ensures all controls and ports are easily accessible and conform to standard formats, making it straightforward to plug in and operate various equipment. You may have noticed that to get any AC or DC power out of the River 2, you have to follow a two stage process. First, turn on the main device using the central on-off switch and then secondly turn on the DC or AC using the independent isolation switches for each. This is not the end of the world, but can feel a bit of a faff when you’re in a hurry. The reason for this is to conserve power and stop unnecessary phantom voltages from draining the battery. The RIVER 2 Max has an AC output of 500W (1000W starting watts with x-boost). That means the highest wattage appliance it can run is 500W with a maximum starting wattage of 1000W. The RIVER 2 Max can also operate several devices simultaneously as long as their total wattage doesn’t exceed 500 running Watts. If any of your devices have a higher starting wattage, you’ll also need to factor that in. RIVER 2 provides up to 600W starting watts (surge power) using X-Boost mode. Where the standard River 2 is less good is when you want to run higher power appliances for longer periods of time. In those cases, you may choose to look at the higher power variants – the River 2 Max (512Wh / 500W) or the River 2 Pro (768Wh / 800W). If these still don’t have enough power then you will need to switch to the Delta 2 range. We prefer the higher power Delta 2 for our campervan, but it is obviously more expensive. It’s essential to keep in mind, though, that a solar panel rarely produces its rated power output in the real world. This is due to numerous factors outlined in the posts linked above. A good rule of thumb for estimating average electricity output is to assume your panel will produce 75% of its rated power during peak sunlight hours. It has excellent charge speed compared with the competition (around 5x faster on mains input), a great display which accurately shows time remaining and percentage capacity remaining. We like the USB-C charging as well as the general ergonomics such as the colour and carry handle. River 2 Max takes just an hour to recharge fully using AC electricity. The Pro takes 70 minutes with AC, but can take longer to charge with solar panels than the Max. Both RIVER 2 Max and Pro offer 220W of solar charging input, but the Pro offers more storage capacity, so it takes longer to charge from 0-100%. Even if your appliance has an operating wattage of 300W, RIVER 2 could only run that one appliance. And, due to the battery storage capacity of 256Wh, RIVER 2 can’t even run your 300W device for an hour (watt-hours and kilowatt-hours measure electricity consumed over time).
