About this deal

The poetry style of the book takes you by surprise at the beginning and offers a different structure to the story and really breaks the chapters down into different almost unique stories of their own. I think this alternative style of story structure just makes the book even more special. My favourite part of the book is when we get to really experience the way that Davey sees the world through the intense descriptions he offers to Sam, this progresses throughout the book and allows us to experience this alternate perception of reality along with them. As a class, children will discuss what they know, and what they can infer, about the main characters based on their reading so far. In their independent activities, they will rewrite the 'fizzy feet' scene from Davey's point of view. In the alternative activity provided, children are challenged to gather appropriate words and phrases to write a haiku about Davey. urn:lcp:cloudbusting0000blac:epub:69683768-31ba-4f13-b675-c42999251909 Foldoutcount 0 Identifier cloudbusting0000blac Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t3d05kf1k Invoice 1652 Isbn 0385607962 Lccn 2005391209 Ocr tesseract 5.0.0-beta-20210815 Ocr_detected_lang en Ocr_detected_lang_conf 1.0000 Ocr_detected_script Latin Ocr_detected_script_conf 0.8795 Ocr_module_version 0.0.13 Ocr_parameters -l eng Old_pallet IA-WL-2000057 Openlibrary_edition In conclusion… Cloud Busting describes a life-changing experience, and could be a life-changing book. Musing on the title of the book itself will rouse children’s imaginations: What is Cloud Busting? Piecing together all clues from the cover and blurb, children are likely to infer the meaning of the phrase in physical terms, and may also be able to offer an hypothesis as to its metaphorical meaning – its hint at the opposing themes of conformity and imagination; friendship versus bullying. Despite his mum’s insistence, Sam doesn’t want to be friends with Davey. He thinks Davey is a first-class, grade A, top-of-the-dung-heap moron. But one day Davey saves Sam’s life and a bond is formed between them. Sam is still embarrassed to be seen with Davey, but little by little he has to admit that when it’s just the two of them, Davey is a lot of fun. But then something terrible happens to Davey. I really liked the way that it was written from Sam's point of view because it showed how much of a decision he had to make with his friends. Alex or Davey? Alex or Davey? this is an amazing book and very emotional. brilliant for both girls or boys. I could read it again and would definitely recommend it.This article about a children's novel of the 2000s is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. Cloud Busting describes a lifechanging experience, and could be a life-changing book. Questions that will be worthy of deeper discussion may include: Cloud Busting offers an embarrassment of riches when it comes to writing responses; below is a sprinkling of possibilities:

Have children generate their own questions, and explore them independently and with adult facilitation. Should Philosophy for Children be encouraged in your school, Cloud Busting offers plenty upon which to ponder.

Finally, if children do feel profoundly moved by this tale, ask them how they are going to bring the book, or its issues, to other people’s attention.
