Before I get into this I feel compelled to apologize. When I made this for my son I had no idea I would end up putting on my blog so I didn’t take any pictures for a tutorial. I didn’t even take great photos of the head itself. Trust me when I say this is really easy to put together…even without step by step pictures. HI! im trying to make a steve shirt for my 7 year old using the steve printout and a box. what size paper should i use at kinkos so that i can cover the box? poster size? Our Steve head was the perfect table decoration for his Minecraft party. It certainly did stand the test of time because it survived living in my son’s room for six years. Well worth the time it took! Rub the lamp and a genie just might appear! Well, maybe not but your little guy will look adorable as Aladdin this Halloween. If you have Adobe Illustrator ( free trial here), you can open the file up in it and select your size paper (making sure it corresponds to the paper size selected with your printer), then choose the "tile" option and select "imageable areas". For the head, this will print it out in 7 sheets if you're using legal sized paper. If you're using letter size, you'll need twice that.

thank you for posting this minecraft costume. My son’s 7th birthday theme is minecraft he love so much minecraft. This is a big help! Can I ask also if you have some printables minecraft birthday themes. The head, which is essentially a cube, was constructed three separate pieces. The first piece makes up the top of the head and three sides. The three sides fold down from the top surface, which starts to make up the shape of the cube. The edges are secured together with cardboard angles and liquid nails. Sheet metal screws are again used to hold everything together while the glue dries. Steve's arms are separate, mirror image pieces. They have one open side on the top inner side (facing his torso) so you can slip your arms through, and they are cut at the elbow for movement. Use your cardboard to make a long rectangle tube, the sides will be approximately 8" wide, the length will be approximately 2" shorter than your torso piece (leave extra length to make top flaps). Glue the tubes closed on the sides and cut and glue flaps closed on top, the bottom of the arm is left open so the wearer can use their hands. Grab a square box that fits you or your child’s head. Print the base file, and apply it to all but the front side of the box. Print the face file and apply it to the front of the box. Cut out eye holes (choose one of the squares if you want it to be covert) and Voila! A creeper head costume! Wear all green and you are good to go. Perfect for the game-minded person in your life! Once you've gathered the dimensions, you will need to then determine your scale factor. Since this costume is for my son, we took our key scaling dimension off of him. Our scaling dimension was measured from his shoulders to the ground. The thought is that the body portion of the costume is supported by his shoulders, and as a result the shoulders of Minecraft Steve need to match this height. So, I set to work making the printables we would need. The printable heads are meant to be printed large and then spray-glued to a square box that will go on the head. For Steve, all you need beyond that is a blue shirt and jeans! The Creeper could get a little more in depth, but we’re planning on a green tshirt and pants under a chest sized box to complete the ensemble. Go with the bad boy look this Halloween and create your own tattoo sleeves. No children were actually tattooed for this tutorial 🙂 Steve was the hardest, as his face has 5 visible sides. I studied the in-game graphics and then created these in Illustrator in a HUGE size. That way those pixelly squares are crisp and clean and… well… not pixelly. Update: The printable is designed so that you can cut it out and “tile” it (laying each copy slightly over the next to make a finished piece) so I’d recommend maybe 11x17in paper, but print several sheets and then cut/glue them on to the box until it is covered. Hope that helps!

This project does take some time to do BUT it is really easy and it’s something you can your kids can do together. Okay, okay. So maybe we've never seen Creeper in real life, but his Minecraft costume really is the greatest way to bring the sandbox game to life! Fun Details Before attaching your skins, tape all exposed seams on the cardboard with masking tape. This smoothes the transitions and covers the cut edges. The files at 100% are 16inches square. So, if you want 11 inches that means a little under 70% should do. At a copy shop their tabloid/11×17 paper will be your best bet. My guess is they can “print to fit” on that paper and it’ll turn out perfect for your box! You’ll need 1 copy of the Creeper Face and 4-5 of the Creeper Base/Chest for the box alone. Hope that helps!

Anyway, got the box size to work. It might be a little small (Short) for our 5 year old, but it’s okay. It still works out. The fourth side surface is added and again attached with cardboard angles. If my cardboard sheet were large enough, I would have made this just fold down from the top surface. Hi! I’ve done this steve head before a few years ago for my nephew, and now my son wants to be creeper head. I think on the steve head I did like a 14x14x14 box, and it left a little overlap on each side so everything went together good. This year I think Im gonna do maybe a 11x11x11 for my kiddo. What size should I print the file to make it overlaps each side? Im printing it at fedex so I dont have to ‘ piece ‘ them together. Thanks so much! Pika pika pikachu! Your little one will be hard to catch in this Pikachu costume made from a hoodie! Velcro the head: The head, which ends up being pretty large relative to the body, needs to be secured in place to prevent it from inadvertently flopping off. We used some strips of 2" Velcro and Gorilla glued them to the body and underside of the head.

Shoulder pads: Foam was also added under the top surface of the body to prevent the cardboard from digging into my son's shoulders. This significantly improved the comfort of the costume. Wish you had a Minecraft Alex printable–my daughter wants to be that for Halloween this year and we are having a hard time finding. Next the end cap was added. This too had flanges that were used for gluing to the body section. A square shaped hole was later cut into this end cap to allow my son's head to fit through. There's no doubt going to be a lot of Steves running around this Halloween, as Minecraft still has a huge community, but those posers are probably just buying their Minecraft costumes. Isn't the best part about Minecraft creating? So why let someone else create your costume? Painting Steve's body is pretty straight forward. I spray painted the legs (royal blue) and torso and sleeves (teal) to save time and effort. To paint just the sleeves and not the whole arms, I taped a piece of newspaper over the arm leaving the flesh part covered. When those parts dried, I painted the flesh color on the arms and set to work on the head. So, I like Minecraft. You might has guessed as much after my DIY Creeper Peeps and Minecraft World Building Marshmallows. So it may not come as a surprise to you that one of our ideas for Halloween this year is to dress up like Steve (the player character) and a Creeper! Thank you SO MUCH for this free printable! My daughter is in a play with her virtual drama club (I still don’t know how this play is going to go down). She is a Minecraft character. When her teacher asked if I could make her costume, I said SURE! before I really knew what I was getting into. I painted boxes last week with turned out to be a major fail. Your printable and my new boxes will hopefully save the day. I appreciate you! hi there trying to make my son a last minute halloween costume. there isnt a link for the steve printable. unless im missing it completely?

I’m so sorry Jessica! My kiddos have sort of moved on from Minecraft… so I’m not thinking I’ll revisit creating for them any time soon. The actual PDF file is about 17in x 17in. So if it is printing that small for you, it is likely because your printer or PDF reader is shrinking it. If you are trying to print in on 8.5 x 11in paper, your printer might have .5in margins, accounting for the lost 1 inch.Thank you for the pattern, I had been looking for the body part of the creeper for my son’s comic con costume. Thank you again.. you may have just saved my sanity! We’ve been looking all over for printable minecraft costumes!! Thank you thank you!!
