About this deal

If you’re in the market for a quality affordable phono stage, this little Award-winning box is well worth auditioning. This specification provides a practical difference between the input and output audio signals in percentage. Therefore, be ready to handle a little mathematical calculation. Bear in mind that the lower the difference percentage, the better the sound quality.

Several factors control the gain figures for the low output moving coil. First, is the circuit vacuum tube solid? Usually, SS designs effortlessly reach high gain and low noise results than vacuum tubes. I remember reading some time ago that the Aria was more focussed on the MC side than MM and improvement over the Fono MM wasn’t great. For that money there were better MM only stages. b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name. Ripping vinyl with this preamp is effortless because any digital editor can use it. This makes the fine Audacity software very flexible instead of a controlled self-designed program. Performance The thing that’s make life easy for us is that the Rega engineers design three preamps that meet every criteria to be the perfect choice for Rega Planar turntables.

I had a Fono MK5 "on loan" for a couple of weeks recently and was quite impressed with the sound. It only has around 41db of gain so was a bit low for the 3mv Nagaoka MP300. Had to wang the volume around to around 2pm vs the usual 9 -10am using 48db in the Delphini. It also looked a bit lost on the Fraim shelf on its own. Detail resolution is good too. This isn’t the most pristine of productions but the Fono MM can uncover a good amount of detail and organise it into a cohesive and musical whole. Springsteen’s distinctive, textured vocals come through with all the power and passion they deserve and the result is as musically involving as we have heard from a phono stage at this level. The internals have remained unchanged from the last generation'With only a case change, was a review necessary? i can't see a reason why this matching wouldn't be a solid combo. as I read the thread i was hoping for a resolution and smiles all round Undoubtedly, the market is overflowing with several options of phono preamps; hence making a suitable choice becomes difficult. But, worry not! Several fundamental factors guide you in the direction of a good phono preamp.

There’s a subsonic filter that removes low-frequency noise when it comes to performance. Power goes off after 20 minutes of inactivity and uses 0.5W power on standby mode. This way, it maintains low power consumption. Nearly all of the small units use a wall wart, but there are lots of aftermarket power supplies available. I would not say that they cause noise, they actually get the power supply out of the case to minimize it, but some of them are not the highest quality. iFi supplies a good one. I use it with my uRendu. My Project Tubebox IISE came with one that is very clean. If you compare the Elys and the 2M they are quite different in frequency response. The Elys is a bit darker sounding:

Usually, the standard frequency for most audio products is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which is bearable for humans. The turntable in this case is AT-LP140XP so I do not want to spend more than 175-200 euros on phono preamp (in terms of logic, there is no point in buying a preamp that costs as much as the turntable itself) But can stretch the limit a bit to 250-275 euro Watts is the standard measure for power. Though most electrical appliances have labeled Watts, you need to be cautious as most manufacturers aren’t trustworthy to boost sales. It's superb balance of attitude and refinement. If the rest of your system is up to scratch, the MX-VYNL is worth the investment. Given our only minor qualm with its predecessor was that some competitors offered a little more in the way of absolute detail – though none performing so charmingly across the board – in theory, the Fono MM has now boarded up the only remaining possible weakness in the defence of its title.

It would be difficult to exaggerate just what a difference those kind of alterations to an amplifier’s chassis, regardless of incentive, can make to the eventual performance. Take the Rega Fono MM as an example of said conundrum. Since the MK2 version received a What Hi-Fi? Award, it has had plenty of competition, but none sufficient to relieve it of its crown. Even now, that incarnation remains one of the finest phono stages available for the money. This is what I like, reaching a level of contentment, safe in the knowledge that there exists no perfection to be reached at any price. Musical Fidelity also takes pride in its adjustability. Instead of one switch, it comes with two sets of loading plugs behind the chassis.Upper mids were not only balanced in terms of presentation, the low noise from the unit meant that the midrange was able to rope in more detail than I would have expected at this price point. Rather than use a series of dipswitches (as many rivals do), the MX-VYNL has a rather elegant control dial to manage the switch between moving coil and moving magnet inputs and their different loading requirements. It’s the kind of thing at which Rega excels, and it offers products that sandwich the Zen Phono in price. The Fono Mini A2D isn’t in the same league when it comes to features or build quality and doesn’t match the Zen Phono for detail, but its sound is overall more musical and engaging for two-thirds of the price. I have an Ortofon Bronze MM that's almost broken in.... I was reading that the Rega will reduce the "brightness" of the bronze however I've been noticing We've continuously been impressed with Rega's excellent (and rather affordable) Fono MM range, so it was something of a relief that the latest model, which featured a brand-spanking new look, didn't sacrifice style for sound. That same Rega DNA is still in there throughout the latest Fono MM Mk5 phono stage.
