The lens hood is plastic and unremarkable, but it seems to do a pretty decent job. For still images, keeping a distance equal to the diagonal length of the full image surface is recommended. The full frame sensor of a digital camera is 36 x 24mm and the diagonal length is 43.26mm so any distance close to this number is nearer to the ideal than the currently accepted industry standard of 50mm. The Sony FE85mm F1.4 GM is quite behind and less good than the Samyang on the A7RIV and should be limited to 42Mpix max The focus ring has just the right resistance. Samyang/Rokinon really killed it with this one and I can't wait until their next AF lens for Sony! This is also one area of serious advantage over the Sigma DN lens, which has both a LOT of pincushion distortion and much heavier vignette. The amount of distortion present is not enough to create any real issues, and can have the unintended benefit of making subjects look slightly slimmer in a portrait lens. This is not a meaningful issue. The vignette is also not significant for a portrait lens. I manually corrected it with a +33 value (low end of moderate) but with an 11 on the Midpoint scale (which means the shading, while mild, extends fairly far into the frame. The vignette seems quite linear in nature, so I actually haven’t found it objectionable in any kind of real world situation even without correction. Resistance to flare is good but not more than that, you can easily get some flare when facing the sun
