The Catch begins on Wednesday, January 25 at 9pm on Channel 5. Episodes will be available on MY5 after airing. When Abbey brings home her fiancé Ryan to introduce him to the family, everyone is completely enamoured with him. Ryan is thoughtful, charming, successful and Abbey is besotted with him. What’s not to like? But Abbey’s father, Ed, doesn’t warm to Ryan at all. Ed feels something about Ryan is off but he’s very much alone in that line of thinking. Logan gives us convincing glimpses into the damaged human psyche, whilst tantalising the reader’s own mind with questions and doubts throughout the narrative. I enjoyed Logan's previous ('The Holiday’) - but I found this one even more compelling and it will be a hard act to follow.

Ryan seems to have it all, good looks, decent job, decorated soldier and highly thought of, so why does Abbie’s father Ed feel the way he does. Ed is sure he can spot a monster but everything points to him being wrong. The pressure goes up a notch when a wedding appears to be imminent and Ed faces a race against time to convince the rest of the family that Ryan is not what he seems. The problem the more digging Ed does the bigger hole he makes for himself, pressure from work and the risk of alienating the rest of the family are only making things more difficult. Jason Watkins leads the cast as Ed Collier, the protective father determined to expose his daughter’s fiancé’s misgivings.Another T.M. I’ve been in the shoes of a new boyfriend meeting a dad and have witnessed a mum urging him to ‘give the boy a chance’. Dads often forget that once upon a time they were also that guy stepping through the door! The Channel 5 drama is based on the book of the same name, by TM Logan that was originally published in 2020. In the final showdown on the moor, Ryan attempted to kill Abbie even after she told him she was pregnant with his child. The reader learnt that he married her because "married men drew less attention" and that he’d learnt the "importance of lying well. And not just lying with words, but with actions too.” The thriller continues. More evidence about George emerges, but Ed is warned to leave the past alone. A body is washed up in the harbour, and Ed finds himself in the frame for murder... If you’ve yet to read T.M. Logan’s The Catch book then you might well be a little surprised by the changes that have reportedly been made to the Collier family and their home in the gripping Channel 5 show. In the Channel 5 drama which starts on January 25, as per RadioTimes.com, the setting is now the coast of the South West of England where Ed is a fisherman.
