I enjoyed The Substitute Bride, though I confess I found it a bit slow in places. It wasn’t until after I’d finished it that I realised why. It’s reprint of an older title, first published in 1977. It seems to me that modern Regency romances have a little more zip about them and maybe a little more joy. (The incomparable Georgette Heyer is an exception, of course.) Maybe it’s me: maybe it’s a personal preference; but the book did feel a little dated. But he immediately regained his composure when the thought of Rachel's teary eyes came to his mind. The arranged marriage theme is enchanting, and exhilarating even, and has become a popular leitmotif for most billionaire stories. Two well-layered main characters are thrown into a love-hate game without their consent and need to recenter and repurpose their whole lives. Autumn twitched her nose. It was the first time that Wendy admitted that she was her daughter. But she was immediately dejected as Wendy told the world Yvonne was her beloved daughter and she was only a substitute.The Demon’s Substitute Bride, which is a fantasy romance novel that you can find on the Dreame platform and is a fantastic story about a demon who forcefully marries an angel and eventually falls in love with her. Don't look at me like that. It's more than time you learned what it means to be a wife, and I am just in the mood to enlighten you. [...] Well, my love, why aren't you struggling as you did earlier? I'll enjoy taming you, you green-eyed witch." Shut up! Don't you dare! " Wendy was enraged with anger. She raised her hand and was about to slap her right on the face. But then she saw Autumn's flawless makeup. Her mesmerizing beauty was enough to calm her down. "I won't argue with you today. Anyway, just get married with Charles and don't create a scene! Don't disgrace the Ortiz Family and Yvonne!" Wendy sternly instructed. It’s not the worst book I’ve read but I didn’t really enjoy it. I am sorry to be critical - but this is sadly no Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen or even a Tessa Dare!! I found the language stiff and stilted, and the story trite and stereotypical. I was really quite bored.

Noël's first historic romance, "The Substitute Bride" (2017) features an arranged marriage with a twist: identity swap. Noël's second historic romance, also with an authentic Regency setting, is "Teaching His Ward" (2019). I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for plot, storyline and characterization. This regency is a heated one in places so be prepared. Her stomach growled. She was starving. Her glossy lips were drying out. She bit on her lower lip trying to keep herself concious. She had been waiting for the man that everyone called a devil to show up. Maybe the author didn't want to be explicit but the sex scenes were disappointing (should probably say "scene" as only one really counted and even that did not feel very romantic!) The wedding was conducted as scheduled. White wedding dress, red carpet, flowers, and guests... The wedding was as grand as the one people saw on big screens. But Autumn's heart was as cold as ice. She was emotionless.Despite Giles’ attitude, Angelica comes to enjoy his company, and her feelings for him start to rekindle. Each chapter of The Substitute Bride Can’t Escape ends abruptly, keeping readers hungry for more. Be sure though, the next chapter will satisfy your hunger and answer all your questions! Lily makes the ultimate sacrifice for her dear cousin and replaces her at the alter. Gervase has never met his bride to be and is going through with this marriage out of duty. What neither expect is to find a true love through an arrangement... however Lily is harbouring a secret, as she is not who Gervase was meant to marry. To everyone’s surprise, even Eric’s, the man opens his mouth and allows Olivia to feed him. Truly upset by this situation, Amy tosses her tablecloth under the table. Had she known all those years that Vincent wasn’t as reserved as she thought, things would have been different. Although Charles held her hand tightly, she didn't even speak to him at all. After the wedding, Charles shook her hand off aggressively and said, "You go home first. I have work to finish."
