About this deal

However, true to its ideals, it reverts back to its origins and the BBA team itself is seen running a simple tournament with a new set of younger Bladers while its team contemplates their future actions. With her Companions at her side, Corayne has mastered the ancient magic in her blood, closing one spindle and pushing back the evil that threatens their world. Naturally sheltered Corayne can't do anything alone, so she's on the mission with help from Andry, the young squire who witnessed the horrors of what happens when the Spindles are used; immortal Elder Prince Dom who was her father's companion/father figure; Sorasa an exiled assassin; and three other misfits that join them along the way on their Fellowship of the Ring-like quest to stop the villain Taristan and his Rasputin-like wizard.

During the World Championships in Beyblade: G-Revolution, Tyson and Daichi's bit-beasts represent dragons of mythical Asian lore. The Red Queen saga was downright messy with its various romantic entanglements, so it's unexpected that Aveyard chose to focus on the character-building and plot without an overt central love story (for now). As I am really not persuaded that these two would choose each other if they had absolutely any other romantic options and weren’t consistently in life threatening situations, their relationship is uninteresting to me and reeks of codependency formed from shared trauma. For instance, Corayne, is the hidden “The Chosen One” trope that we see time and time again in fantasy novels. Kenny and Hilary are based on Rokumaru and Kurumi from Next Generation Beigoma Battle: Beyblade who fulfilled similar roles to Tyson as they do in the anime. In tandem with the Feral Claws or an upgrade of it, the Breaker Blade becomes an effective weapon due to it gaining autoswing and even higher knockback.

Realm Breaker Series by Victoria Aveyard - Goodreads Realm Breaker Series by Victoria Aveyard - Goodreads

There's a lot of violence in this series starter, and characters kill with swords, blades, poison, and their own hands. There is no kindly retired mathematician teaching her her figures or anything remotely relevant to her acquiring these skills ever explained. There's no central romance in the story, although a few romantic possibilities exist in the ensemble of characters. It is always effective to remind readers that even hypothetical undead would be made up of actual former human beings. The resemblance can be seen in the synonymous naming (Breaker Blade/Buster Sword), and the weapon's similar designs, including its red handle, very large size and wedge shape, and the two red and green spots near the base of the blade, which reference Final Fantasy VII's "Materia" orbs that can be inserted into weapons. Author Victoria Aveyard knows how to build a world, but there's almost too much exposition to follow in a seamless way. Queen Erida's army marches across Allward with her consort, Taristan, right beside them, opening more portals into nightmarish worlds, razing kingdoms to the ground.

Blade Breaker Quotes by Victoria Aveyard - Goodreads Blade Breaker Quotes by Victoria Aveyard - Goodreads

I honestly would have much preferred to read an entire series about these two taking over the world and not have to deal with all of these other uninteresting characters who more or less have one defining feature of their personalities. In the fantasy universe of Allward, there's a dark force growing across the lands, causing kingdoms to blame each other when really there's a Bad Guy opening portals into dangerous other dimensions thanks to his Corblood and use of a magical Spindle (which very few people can wield). There are complex, nearly overwhelming battle scenes and plenty of moments of genuine horror (most of which involve the aforementioned skeleton corpse army). And the dark attraction that appears to have developed between the the two is intriguing, as it highlights how desperately each has always simply wanted to be seen and appreciated for themselves.Aveyard’s decision to make the story’s villain (or, at least one of its villains) a POV character pays off primarily because she doesn’t attempt to make Erida or Tarristan terribly sympathetic, and simply allows them to be human instead.
