About this deal

There were many elements of this book that, alone or in combination with a few other elements, would have worked nicely. All the characters are intensely well drawn, the setting is pitch perfect, the dialogue crackles most especially when Manny is involved – oh Manny how I will miss you. That this highly original mashup doesn’t entirely come off is, I think, mainly due to Whitaker’s lack of writing experience – subtler characterisation is required for the denouement to be entirely convincing – but the combination of verve, humour and pathos make it well worth a read.

If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service. Senior student and Mexican, Manny Romero, is currently in his latest reincarnation since his father, Danny, left home two-years-ago as a 1950s Italian gangster, much to the amusement of the townsfolk who see him get out of his duck-egg blue Ford, in a full three-piece suit and Fedora that chafes.

The jumping off point of the whole story is three year old Harry, who was seen on the video baby monitor taken from his room by someone in a clown mask one night. I’m sure we’ve all seen and read plenty of books that claim that everyone has secrets, then you read it and are left wondering, that was the big secret? Meanwhile, cheating spouse and father to Harry, the feckless and controlling Michael Monroe is nowhere to be seen, with scant interest in his son’s disappearance but still put on a pedestal by Jess, who cherishes him. Chris Whitaker keeps a darkly humerous tone running through a lot of the narrative, whilst never losing sight of the fact that the heart of this story involves a missing child.

We think it’s important you have detailed, comprehensive information so that you can decide which care providers to shortlist. We've set up a quick and easy way for you to pay your rent online so you can focus on the more important and fun things in life. My Review: Tall Oaks is the debut novel by Chris Whitaker and having heard only wonderful things about this book I decided it was time to read it.They inspect care homes and care services to make sure they are safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led. Tall Oaks is a story about a missing child, but it is also a story which exposes the decisions which people make to ensure that their lives are bearable. Alle kennen einander, alles scheint friedlich - doch dann verschwindet eines Nachts der dreijährige Harry. Things like this just don’t happen in the town, which by the way, the town is a character in itself.
