About this deal

Series Moment: There is, of course, the reveal that Nahuseresh was not dead at all—that it was all part of the Attolians’ ploy to get Kamet out of his master’s household. At the end of the night, as panic sets in, he runs for the exit—only to find his stone blocks pushed away. Eugenides shows up in each, but so too do we learn more about the brutal and beautiful Attolia, the less-conventionally-attractive but kind and brilliant Eddis, and their various advisors, allies, and enemies. Megan Whalen Turner’s books have a permanent spot on my favorites shelf, with space waiting for more books to come.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner | Hachette UK

She has been awarded a Newbery Honor and a Boston Globe–Horn Book Honor and won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature. It is the first in the Queen's Thief series, and was originally published on October 1st, 1996 in the United States. The magus: The king of Sounis’s most powerful advisor, the magus is well-respected (and feared) by others for his knowledge and sway with the king. This was first pushed back to spring 2020 before the book was published on October 6, 2020, concluding the series. Turner’s novel provides just enough information about its world for this particular story to operate; even the dangling plot threads regarding Gen crossing Attolia at the end hardly presaged a sequel at the time of the book’s publication. The travelers are strained by personal conflict, as well as the dangers present due to the political and secret nature of their mission.

Author Megan Whalen Turn has created a highly detailed setting and peopled it with realistic and complicated characters. Betrayal: Gen wakes injured in an Attolian prison with the magus and Sophos, who fills in the pieces.

Even Turner, with her loyal fanbase, asks a lot of readers to follow a new character’s perspective in every single book. The magus finds Gen filthy, uncouth, and insolent, but he needs Gen’s skills as a thief for a secret mission. Summary: As I’ve written before, I thought the series ended there, a dark duology about dueling countries’ rulers and how a Thief becomes a king.
