If you’re not a fan of harsh chemicals in your cleaning products then there are some natural alternatives which Mumsnetters recommend for cleaning a grubby oven.

Remove with a cloth or sponge as directed. Be aware of products that may leave scratches on the glass. To cleanse the oven door of baked-on grease and long stubborn long-standing dirt, use a razor blade to carefully scrape it away. Use the flat edge of the blade, ensuring you don’t use the corner as this can result in the oven glass door being heavily scratched

Cleaning the Glass Insert in Your Oven Door

Your self-cleaning oven works by using high temperatures to burn off any bits of dirt or food debris. Depending on the model of your oven, a self-cleaning cycle can take anywhere between one to several hours. It does have some chemicals in it but you don’t need to wear gloves and it’s got the seal of approval from the Vegan Society and Cruelty Free International, and it smells lovely to boot. A great ethical alternative to some of the harsher products on the market. Some users found it wasn’t as effective on heavily soiled glass doors. It can be used to clean up your oven, grill and BBQ. Although Cif does produce some impressive results, it’s corrosive when used on certain surfaces, so keep it away from aluminium, copper, brass, marble, painted wood or appliance lettering. There are two types of people in this world: people who shudder at the thought of cleaning the oven and those who will channel their inner Mrs Hinch and roll up their sleeves for a good scrub.

Boasting 100 percent grease removal, Cif’s Perfect Finish promises to transform dirty ovens in less than 30 minutes. Just apply the spray to the inside of your oven, to your grill or to your hob and then rinse. Job done. Use your non-scratch sponge to scrub the final bits of dirt away. Step 8: Reassemble and wipe down the oven When it comes to cleaning the glass on an oven door, make sure you select a spray, paste, foam or liquid cleaner that is appropriate for the job. Create a baking soda (bicarb) cleaning paste. To form your bicarb (baking soda) paste, in a regular bowl, mix seven tablespoons of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) with three tablespoons of water until you have a spreadable cleaning paste. If you have a rather large oven or if you’re cleaning multiple ovens at once, you may consider doubling – or even tripling – the amounts. Don’t worry if your paste is not 100% consistent in texture. As accredited cleaning experts, we think the best cleaner to have for glass oven doors is a natural cleaning solution of equal parts cleaning vinegar and water with a dash of baking soda, this has the effect regular cleaners have on grease without the harsh chemical cleaners. If you don’t have the time to clean your own oven, or you simply want to save yourself the trouble, why not enlist the help of a professional? Before running your self-clean cycle, remove any loose items and wipe down the inside of your oven. Beware this product can’t be used for cleaning inside agas, or on light and coloured metals, painted surfaces (including painted enamel) or self cleaning ovens. It’s also not suitable for all stainless steel surfaces.
